So, my poor DS19 calls me from his dorm...he's sick. He goes to the clinic, they tell him it's swine flu. This makes sense...he's had the seasonal flu vaccine, so it's very likely swine flu. He comes home (he's only 50 minutes away). Mommy takes care of him, as mommies should.

I look it up to see what I'm up against, and it says incubation is 2 to 7 days, and duration of the worst part is 3-4 days, with lingering cough afterwards. Contagious up to 7 days from onset.

So, this is what I'm up against. I'm scheduled to leave for DAP in 10 days. Best case scenario...I get sick today (okay, best case is that I never get sick, but that's just too optimistic), and I'm over it and not contagious when I go to FL...maybe a lingering cough, maybe not as much drinking, but good to go. Worst case (besides the very worst) is I don't get it for another 7 days, and I don't get to go to DAP.

So, I guess I go hug my kid to pieces, and hope for the best? Or should I lock him in a room, and feed him chicken soup through a slot in the door? Choices, choices....

Hug him to pieces through a rubber suit and mask. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon.

Oh man, Mindy... I hope it is a very mild case and you don't get it... Is it too late to consume large quanities of Vitamin C? Good luck!!!

Hope everything turns out ok Mindy.

Take Tamiflu.. you can take it as a preventive and your son can take it to stop it in it's tracks. Worked wonders for my daughter and I took it to make sure I did not get it!

Do the standard protocols:

Wear a mask.

Wash your hands alot.

Do not touch your face with your hands.

I would recommend something like the oral tablet of Zicam. This will boost your immunity and hopefully help.

Just some thoughts...

So sorry!

I hope he feels better soon.

Try to stay healthy!

Awwwwww....

wear a mask, use lots of hand cleaner and love on him!

Hopefully you wont get sick!!

I hope he feels better!

Call your family doc. some will prescribe tamiflu for those parents exposed. We have had several families in our school not get it when one gets it.

So mommy dearest can stay healthy, I vote bubble boy.

Go get Tamiflu - now!! asap If you get it soon enough, you shouldn't get the flu-now!!! (oh I see others have said that too, can't be said too many times, if anyone feels flu symptoms and has been exposed - see your doctor asap!!

Put a mask on him, wash your hands, take your vitamins and pray. :goodvibes

As for the Tamiflu, it's not being given out to everyone as a preventative. There are guidelines as to who can get it and who can't. It wouldn't hurt to call your doctor to ask if you qualify....a sob story about an upcoming Disney trip might help your case, but it will depend on the doctor.

Good luck avoiding the germs!

Hug him to pieces but don't breathe around him.

I hope he gets better soon!

Sorry to hear about your boy. Take care of yourself.
