So I decided that I'd give my gypsy a try today. I welded two
words now how fo I save it? And how do I cut it out?!!

Please and thank you.

Ok I was so silly to think that I could just cut something
out. I had to link the cart first. Done.
Then it said I have the wrong firmware. So it's updating now.
I thought I did not need the cart once I linked it but it said (before
it asked to update) that I needed a cart in the machine.
So I do still need to put the cart in??
And does it matter what size the machine is set for? Or will
it take what size is on the gypsy??

So many questions!!!!
I need to go to gypsy school!!!
Anyone want to be my professor ???

I DID IT!!!!!!!

It ripped on one spot but at least now I know I can do it!

Now how do I shadow it???

Yay! Can you figure out how to make it into a Jukebox, so I can work off of CDS instead of that tiny little screen?

I wish I could. I'm baby stepping over here. I'd show a pic
but it's for dit's cj and I don't want to spoil it.

Holly, I think you needed the cart in the machine for it to update the Firmware which probably let your machine know it had a Gypsy.

Imagine a conversation...

"I'm a Cricut and I need a cartridge to operate."

"What is this thing trying to talk to me?"

"Oh, I need new firmware to understand it, let me get it"

"I got new firmware, hey, this thing is a Gypsy. If I have a Gypsy attached to me, I don't need a cartridge to operate."

But I don't have a Gypsy, so I don't know for sure.

It was my understanding that you don't need a cart in your Cricut to cut with your Gypsy. I bought my Gypsy back in Sept. when HSN had their big release ... I'm never going to learn how to use this thing. I do still love it. It's a great shopping tool for when new carts are going to be released. :lmao:
That being said, I couldn't find my Life is a Beach cart the other day so I was forced to use it to cut ... was shocked to have it actually work. I do like to use my Gypsy to design layouts but rely on my real carts and handbooks to actually do the cutting.

So let me sum up some of my ?'s....

A. You can only cut something from a cart you own?
B. You must have that cart linked to the gypsy?
C. You can't say.. Design something using two different carts
because you have to have a cart in the cricut to cut?
D. So if I make a spongebob pineapple with mickeymouse ears
on top I can't cut it out because which cart do I put in the cricut?

Oh goodness gracious!!!
My head is spinning!!!!!
I left my cricuts in the boxes for over a year because I was
afraid to use them. I'm not "techy" smart. I really want to
learn how to use my gypsy and not be afraid of it!

C. You can't say.. Design something using two different carts
because you have to have a cart in the cricut to cut? I don't think you need to have a cart in the cricut to cut, or if you do, you should be able to switch them out. If I design something in CDS with more than one cart, it tells me, "insert Mickey and Friends" and then insert "Celebrations." So, I'm assuming that you will just switch them out...But, the whole point of the gypsy is to not need your carts when you cut...I'll test this on Tuesday.
D. So if I make a spongebob pineapple with mickeymouse ears
on top I can't cut it out because which cart do I put in the cricut? See C.

Do not be afraid, we will figure it out together!

C. You can't say.. Design something using two different carts
because you have to have a cart in the cricut to cut? You can design with multiple carts. Before the Gypsy, when you used CDS it would prompt you to take out and change carts. Then they came out with the Jukebox, so you plugged all the carts needed at the same time. Then came the Gypsy
D. So if I make a spongebob pineapple with mickeymouse ears
on top I can't cut it out because which cart do I put in the cricut? If you have loaded all the carts you own to your Gypsy and and are using the Gypsy to cut, you shouldn't need any carts in the Cricut.

Do not be afraid, we will figure it out together!

Thank Jennifer. But I might give you a nervous breakdown
before we do!!!!

Thank you Hope!

So in order to make my funny sponge bob
example I need to have that cart and have it loaded!
Think I got it!

We'll have breakdowns together. I'm still peeved that I can't use it as a jukebox. I've finally got CDS figured out ;)

I'd love to have that but I need a new
puter first !

I saw somewhere that there is a plan for people to be able to import CDS files to the Gypsy. So you could design on the computer, but cut using the Gypsy. But this is ProvoCraft, so who knows how long it will take to happen.

You actually can do that. I tested moving files from CDS to the Gypsy earlier, but didn't cut from there. I hope to this week!

Yes. And I hate it.

I have fatso fingers!!!!

It took some playing for me to get used to it, but now I love my G. The only thing that I have not figured out how to do (and I think it is because there is not a way to do it right now) is layering of titles where things would line up perfectly so that the shadow and the word would fit together perfectly. Maybe on the next update!

i tried so hard to shadow something yesterday and just can't do it!

hopefully someday!

I can't imagine why that wasn't a FIRST priority! Oh well...I posted my linking question on the Cricut board too. They suggested working in CDS and then moving to the Gypsy by the sync, but the hide contours thing doesn't work when you do that...Stupid stupid stupid!
