Gym etiquette question.

Am I the only other person curious as to how the op is going to cover..I mean explain this part of her post?

Nope... popcorn::

Anyway, the answer is that woman A was rude, and that your husband was also rude to use the women's section of the gym, so everyone is wrong! ;)

The reason I asked is because my DH was about to use a bench once, and a guy yelled at him that he was already using it. He was off doing another machine at the time, and my DH had no idea that he had "claimed it".

Both of these people were men. There was no woman involved. OP's husband was not in a "female only" part of a gym.

There are segregated gyms?? I've heard of women's only gyms, but not portions of a larger gym that are designated male/female :confused3 I'm usually the only woman in the free weights room surrounded by burly men but it certainly doesn't stop me!

A couple of gyms I've been to have these sort of sections. Generally in a completely separate area/on a different floor. The gym at my university had "women only" hours (one hour a day). I loved these hours. Not because I cared about working out around men, but because they were so much quieter and less busy. At the school, at least, these hours were to allow woman who had religious or cultural beliefs that didn't allow them work out around men (or wear clothing appropriate for working out, when around men), to be able to work out. There were also women only pool hours (but only the 25yd pool, not the 50m pool).

Not going to happen. She's been back to the board (and posting), a number of times, but nothing on this thread.

Heres the situation:

Woman A is in the womans part of the gym (a small section of a big gym) and is doing 3 sets of 3 different exercises, using 2 different machines (one exersice was just free weights). Woman B comes in and watches what Woman A is doing. Woman B knows that Woman A is using one of the machines (though she is doing another part of her routine at that moment) and gets on and starts using it. Is Woman B wrong?

Edited to add - Woman A actually had her belongings on the machine (it was actually a bench) that Woman B started to use.

But the OP's original question stated that both people were women and they were using the women's section of the gym.

In this case, the gender change did not change the gist of the answers. But it is confusing when a story changes so drastically as to change gender and location.

Right. I'm responding to the fact that some people thought there was a man and a woman involved.

Nobody thought there was a man and a woman involved.

Since she changed the story to say that Woman B was actually her husband and Woman A was another man, people were joking that her Husband (Woman B) shouldn't have been in the woman's part of the gym since that was her original location.

I think youre asking if both machines are essentially reserved because of the sets routine of female A. I would say its rude for Female A to expect others to not use a machine she isnt using yet.

Where I go this happens frequently. I usually go in the morning and it's not horribly busy, but on occasion, someone is WAY over on the other side doing crunches and I jump on a leg machine and then suddenly...this person is practically breathing down my neck waiting on me to get done because they "meant to go there next". Um..ok. I have a right to work out here too..be patient and I'll be done. I do my sets and go on to the next machine...I don't take up too much time. They do try to mark their territory with water or towels, but it goes ignored most of the time. Be courteous and take turns...why get bent out of shape about it? My dh had this scenario happen one night last week. Another man got upset when he started to use a machine because he left his towel on the one my dh used. Dh basically told him, you weren't using both machines at one time, I'll be done and then you can go.

was there not another bench that woman B could have used ? Did it have to be that one ?
