We're staying at Pop in a few weeks...a few in our large group want to use the gym while there, but there is obviously not one at Pop...what are their options (on or off premises)?

Well they can't use the gyms at other hotels. MAYBE if they paid for a spa treatment. As far as off property? Google gyms in lake buena Vista?

Thanks! They were talking about using Gold's Gym in Orlando, but that looks like a $40 one way taxi fare.

I think in the past the Swan/Dolphin gym had a day pass option - I'd give them a call and ask.

I thought you could pay a daily fee to use the gym at another resort. Not sure if you can still do this.

I believe there is Anytime Fitness not to far from Disney properties.

I would have them look at the non-gym exercises. There's tons of area to run around Pop, plus doing things like dips, lunges, push-ups, planks. Is there a specific reason why they feel they need a gym to exercise?

They like to lift weights..cardio type workouts aren't going to work for them. Thanks for the info everyone! I'll pass it on!

As someone who works out, I normally take a break from lifting during my vacation, but to each their own. (Hope that didn't come off as condescending, as I have a tip that may actually work.)

The bad - you can't use a gym at another resort. It stinks, I know. It also stinks that so many gyms are at Deluxe resorts, with the exception of Coronado Springs.

Now, as for working out... How long is your trip? If it's under 5 days, I think your group is overthinking things. Get in a few great workouts leading up to the trip and use the days of your vacation as recover days.

I eat like a slob at Disney. There's no better way to put it. I never gain more than 2-3 pounds, though. You walk A LOT. A lot more than you think you do. At least 8-9 miles a day. Your legs will be sore the first day or so. Walking that much is very underrated.

If you don't feel like you're doing enough, throw in a run around property, some push ups in your room and maybe use the benches (sitting ones) around property to do some dips.

Swimming is another alternative. Uses a ton of muscles and is a great workout.

I get it—when I get in a workout groove, I hate taking time off. I just wrapped up 2 weeks out of the gym due to finishing school/busy time at work/outside life interfering. I feel very lazy... but the truth is, it takes about 2 weeks before you start losing muscle and your body feels the affects. Unless you're going on a one-month trip, your group doesn't have anything to worry about.

Now, if you just wanna go to the gym and de-stress, that's another story. There are gyms in the area, but you know the "rub." They'll spend more time giving you tours of the gym and trying to sell you than you'll be working out. Do you really wanna deal with that?

It's not for me...I wouldn't work out on a vacation, particularly one at Disney. I'm just trying to help them have some information if they choose to do so...though I think they might abandon those ideas when they realize that it's going to be a lot of work to make it happen. Thanks.

At Disney, the resort you pay for determines the amenities you get. To get a gym, the minimum resort you have to book is Coronado.

Value resorts are themed but basic in their offerings.

I work out 5 days a week so don't like to drop it while on vacation. Even though I stay in deluxe resorts I don't like communal gyms (I have a home gym). So my solution is I walk 30 min. every morning around the resort (used to jog blew out my knees) and I carry resistance bands with me for strength training. http://www.gymsource.com/spri-exertube-resistance-bands. Light weight and you can get as much resistance as you need but just choking up on them. That way I can find a nice shady secluded spot after my walk and go at it or even back in the room. I also do a little yoga stretching after my walk, so easy enough to get your work out in, without the gym.

Are they trained to use TRX bands? I take a class weekly, plus my trainer has worked with me using them. I bought my husband a set, which he takes with him on business trips. It's compact, and you can work your whole body using your body weight - trust me it's a good workout (and great for your core if done properly).

I do work out on vacation, but not at Disney - there I take a break for a week.

while not a help either... There are not a lot of weight machines at Disney gym's... They mostly consist of cardo machines... I do not recall exactly what by I can tell you may find 4 total weight machines of different types and I want to say less. If they are looking for weight machines notice machines not free weights.. the best advice is above find something heavy at the resort...

So I start having cramps in my shoulders and back and i start to get cranky if I go longer than 3 days without hitting the heavy weights. I know it sounds silly, but I do powerlifting and when the back muscles don't get that really hard stretch it happens. I completely understand why some folks would want to continue the gym. If they are like me and they cant get to a gym I would really suggest getting a deep tissue massage.

I would agree if it's just a 4-5 day trip.

However, our WDW vacations are for 2 full weeks. As someone who has been muscular and fit their entire life it's a way of life. I won't enjoy my vacation if I go the whole time without working out. That's why we always stay at CSR. It's not the same as a real gym but there is enough there for me to get by for 2 weeks.

I can't speak for all of the WDW gyms, but the one at CSR has about 10 different machines, a rack of dumbells, a couple of benches, a Smith machine with about 400lbs of free weights, and about 10 cardio machines. It's no where close to a "real" gym, but actually pretty decent for a hotel and I can get by for 2 weeks.
