according to DVC person in Anaheim. Just returned from DL trip -- gotta love those developers points. Went to see the GCV models twice. Were told that a mailing to the members regarding GCV is going out "soon" and that construction was expected to be complete at the end of 2009. No info on when points would be on sale or when points charts would be available. This was according to someone who wasn't a guide so take it for what it is worth. ;) By the way, the models are beautiful -- the nicest DVC we've ever seen!

Hope I'm not showing my ignorance here; What is "GVC"?

I believe they mean GCV, the Grand Californian Villas that are going up at Disneyland.

Less then two weeks until we get to see the models for ourselves. We love the GC so I'm sure we'll love the GCV. Looking forward to to getting the mailer from DVC.

Note:
Our trip has been postponed from 9/6 to 9/27...3 more weeks to go!

Yes, I will be interested to see what they say as I didn't get any indication they were points charts, or pricing or anything like that . . .

Hoping the stars will align and I'll be able to buy there despite the fact that we're not current DVC members! (VGC is the only home resort that would make DVC worth it to us.)

That must be part of the official script. Erin gave us a tour through the GVC models today and she said that information would be sent to us "soon"! The models are lovely and got me thinking about a small add-on. We really enjoyed our stay 3 night stay at PP. -- Suzanne

She was the one who told us on Saturday! Someone else showed me the models on Friday and didn't say a word about the mailing. I just dutifully passed on the rumor because I think any GCV news is good news! :rotfl2:

we saw them shortly after they opened early July, they are fantastic; def. craftsman influence & high quality materials; a great addition:thumbsup2

Oh my goodness, despite being at DL for several days and telling my "guide" that GVC was all we were interested in (and I cannot sleep waiting for them to go on sale), she didn't even mention that there were models to look at. Grrrrrrrr. Obviously I hadn't found the boards yet. I have NO love for that woman.

Today I looked at the pics online, I'd post the link but it won't allow me to yet, sorry.

It looks like the balconies are going to be the same very skinny, basically worthless balconies that they have currently at the GC. Did anyone check out the balconies and/or ask about if they were actual size in the models? I know I'm trying to ascertain this from a pic, but still, it appears to be the same darn balcony style where if you sit down the railing is in front of your face and that there are only two chairs with a tiny, 1.5' diameter short table between them.

I was hoping for so much better in the new GCV!!!

Expecting something a little more like http://www.fallingwater.org/ ;) ?

Actually the balconies are much larger (at least on the one bedroom side) and is 4 1/2 feet deep. Check out this in depth article to learn more: http://dvcnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=562&Itemid=1

Ahhh man, now that is exactly what I'm talking about!! Maybe they will let us stay overnight just like Brad & Angie got to? :rotfl:

But honestly! I set my sights pretty low, like maybe having a real table and four chairs, and being able to see over the balcony railing because it isn't 2" away from my nose. Is having a usable balcony in a place where the sun shines 330 days a year really asking too much? I'm not asking for 400 sqft, a hot tub and a woodburning fireplace out there, although if I had been asked for a consult by the design team...

I recently saw the models too and I agree, they are amazing! I've heard people say that they are bland or boring but I think they're fabulous and I can't wait to stay in one!!

Bethy,

I'm anxious to add on at VGC also. But don't be too quick to rule out Florida.
We live in Portland and go 3-4 X's a year. Alaska Air and Southwest have good routes. AA has a direct flight from Seattle, and Southwest has (even still) very reasonable fares.

We're "bi-coastal" people - head both directions each year, and CAN"T WAIT to add VGC to the mix! It'll sure beat sleeping in the loft guest room above my SIL's garage for a few nights each year!!! (The DL Hotel has been nice since joining DVC, yes, but wow, what a difference this will be being on-site each time, instead of driving in 45 min from SIL's house like we had to do when NOT at the hotel). We saw the models when we were out there this past July, and YES, they were gorgeous! And the kids absolutely loved the murphy bed... I can already hear the arguments about who will get to use it! :lmao:
