Ok, I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. I eat pretty healthy ('cept for a beer or 4 on the weekends), I get plenty of exercise, I'm active, far from a couch-potato, I've done situps till I'm blue in the face, done whole ab workouts and I've NEVER had this kind of stomach....

Now, I read Men's Health. I've seen all the covers with the "Beach Ready Abs in 15 Days" claims. However, I've yet to experience the results after putting the work in.

Do any of you guys on here have a washboard stomach? And, if so, how in the holy heckfire did you get it?

I'm not a guy, but I have a question. Why would you want a stomache like that? I know there are some that find that attractive, but I've always thought it looked weird.

Hmmmm, I am sure many of us women would be equally interested in finding out?? ;) ;) ;)

In fact if you would rather continue your anonymity, please feel free to PM me. :smooth:

And ifanyone has a son say around 18, 19, 20 years old with a stomach like that....SEND THEM MY WAY :) hehe

I just KNEW this thread would get hijacked quickly. :teeth:

browneyes - It's not so much the look, it's the fact that there's no "gut" when I sit down that's so appealing to me.

Not a guy, but I have some comments.

My boyfriend is 19 and goes to the gym 5 or 6 days a week. He is really into body building and has huge arms, a great chest, strong, built legs, a nicely built chest. His body is awesome. He does not have abs though lol.

Abs are to the male body as the butt and thighs are to the females. It is nearly impossible for me to sculpt my butt and thighs, and I'm a tiny girl! Women carry their fat in that reigon, and men carry theirs in their tummy.

Honestly, if you want to get rid of stomach fat, do cardio. No matter how cut your abs are, if fat is covering them they aren't going to show. Many people don't understand this.

Oh NO, it is most definitely the look!! And the feel too!! ;)

heh, funny story......I had to ask DH the other day what a six-pack was. He described it to me and by golly, the idea just went over my head.
Thanks for the pic to confirm what hubby tried to convince me was the "in" thing for a guys belly.
(looks kinda funny for me, but hey, what do I know?)

Evil princess hit the nail on the head. No amount of situps or crunches is going to give you that look if you don't get rid of the layer of fat covering the abs and burning more calories than you take in is the only way to do it.

Back in my college days ( 20 years and 60 lbs ago) I had six pack abs. Now I have more like keg flabs.:teeth:

I'll confirm the cardio thing. I have twin sons who are 16yo. One plays football and wrestles. The other runs and surfs alot. He runs around 45 miles per week. They are both in great shape and neither carries any extra pounds. But the runner/surfer has the six pack. My other son gets one during wrestling season, because he does tons of cardio and well just tons of sweating during this season.

yep, cardio is key and eating really well.

thanks for the picture by the way. This has now become the Wednesday Ladies Post ;) :)

mmmm nice pic! Wish I had a tummy like that, but after 2 babies and a couple of operations...sigh!:p

I agree with Evil Princess and Tiggeroo. We all have "six pack abs", but like others have already said, some of them are covered up!

I run the Twin Cities Marathon every fall and in the summer when my mileage gets a little higher, I can see that I do have ab muscles, despite VERY little ab-specific work. My weight usually drops from 170-175 in June down to 160-165 in October (I'm 5'11") and I bet most of that lost weight comes off my mid-section!

The discouraging thing is, I've found the older I get (currently 39), the weight goes on faster and comes off slower!

It's not easy...but it is do-able......as mentioned key is cardio and diet....if you'd like more specific information....search out "shredding" diets that are used precontest for bodybuilders...it can get complex...including monitoring sodium carefully....but as I believe Indy said eariler....in the final analysis "6" or "8" or even "10" packs are defined 90% by reducing the space between the skin and the underlying muscles of excess fat, and water.

I hope this helps! :)

My guy has a washboard stomach. He was blessed with an astonishing metabolism, works out every day, and is very active. I'm so thankful!
