Gustav

Its way to early to even start worrying. Also last projections didnt even have FL in the cone.

As of right now it looks like it may come more towards us in Louisiana. But the path has plenty of time to change.

Can someone tell me when there is a hurricane somewhat nearby..like even if gustav goes to Louisiana what does that mean for Florida? How much of the day has it been raining> How long does it rain at a time? How hard? Can anyone tell me? We are coming in 3 days, and I am trying to figure out what to expect. :confused3

If it hits Louisiana, that means FL will most likely not be affected at all. Right now it's still way south of Florida, so there's still plenty of chance the path they're projecting is way off, so it could hit anywhere really.

The five day "cone" for Gustav shows it heading straight for New Orleans, which would be an unmitigated disaster. Not again! :sad2: I hate to see Hurricanes hit anything, but coming in at New Orleans would be like picking a scab off a very deep wound.

I hope Julie & Corey's family are boarding a plane right now for Florida and getting the heck out of the way of that storm.

When we were in WDW in September 2005, we got the outer bands of Hurricane Rita and it rained pretty good for about 8 hours from about 2:00 p.m. until late in the evening. As it moved closer to Texas, the rain let up in Florida.

It's almost same path as Katrina was on. I hope it does not hit this area again.

Projected path has moved a litte more west. Heading straight for me.

I really do hope it fizzles. I was reading a little about the science of hurricanes today. There is a condition in the gulf (which I won't try to even talk about here, as I'll misrepresent it entirely) that is similar to what we saw in 2004 and 2005. If the hurricane takes the right path, it has the potential to grown enormously.

I'll post the link I was reading from - it's from Daily Kos, which is a political website that is definitely from the left, so if that is not to your taste please don't follow it.

and here is the Washington Post's analysis:

I sure hope it fizzles as well, and doesn't turn east! We have our flight Monday morning, pretty much the time it is projected to be in the area :scared:
I mean, I don't want it hitting New Orleans, either; I'm just hoping it drifts back to sea (however unlikely that may be).

Well I went buy some supplies last night. Going to help my dad board up his house today and then board up mine tomorrow.

now the 5 day storm track for hanna shows it turning towards cuba ....so that's good - not for the cubans, but better for florida...

i've also been worried about TS Hanna - for a while it looked like it would get close to central florida on wednesday, exactly when DD arrives in Orlando...
and given that DD has that very same name, my superstitious side went into overdrive....

Thank you!

I think Corey's parents have headed to FL to take the dogs back to their mommy & Daddy and if I remember my podcast history right Julie's from farther north in LA.

We are "hunkering" down (even have Spam!) and working on taking care of some of our neighbors here in the NOLA. We live in the French Quarter(when we get to come home from work!) so flooding hopefully won't be a problem. We have a flight scheduled out on Tuesday Am if Gustav hasn't made a visit yet.....

:wizard:

We shall see.........

Good luck BeadPirate. I'm here in Lafayette getting ready for the hurricane.

The forcast are getting worse and worse.

Sending good thoughts and prayers to those of you in LA and the Gulf region. Stay Safe!

We booked another flight out for tomorrow this morning. However it looks like they may close the airport before our flight. We're calling tomorrow after the 10AM update and see if it's still on or cancelled.

If we stay I have accumulated my fair share of strays to take care of.....:rotfl2: .....I love me a sorry case. Our friend Michael who works at WDW is here bartending for Decadence and can't get out so we'll be "adopting" him. And we have some elderly folk across the street that don't want to leave, and a couple of friends that are first responders that need furbaby watchers so if we HAVE to stay we'll do it.

Not happy about it, but sometimes you're put in a place for a reason.

Here's to hoping.........(crossed everything I can that it misses greater NOLA)
