We're getting wind and rain but nothing terrible just yet. The eye is supposed to hit Lafayette around 1pm-2pm. We still have power Not sure for how long.

Wind is picking up. Had a 4" diameter branch off my river birch tree break just a few minutes ago.

they just upgraded Hanna to a hurricane, albeit category 1, but she's about to cross some very warm water...
her wind speeds are already up to 75 mph....

hopefully, she won't change course into florida.... .....

and then coming after hanna comes TD nine....and further west, on the coast of africa is another area of activity with "high potential".....

All effects of Hanna should be felt later in the week. Wed-Sat in the FL area. Still no definative forecast though for where its going.

Not to make light of a serious situation, but if your name were Tina, you might find "Ike" a bit scarier!

I personally find "Hannah" terrifying. Like the shrieks of millions of tween bubblegum rockstar wannabe's...

Ike is Rick's pet name. Short for Eichmann. I heard that today and almost fell over. I figure as much as Rick loves New Orleans Ike'll be headed there next......

But if it stays with Rick's personality it'll be a big bear of a storm with little bite. (Unless you tease him.......alot.)

Well I survived! There is still some winds but the rain has died down substantially. I'm pretty sure the worst is over for me. We just had some minor tree damage and leaves all over the place. I was so lucky not to lose my power. About half the homes in the surrounding areas don't have power.
I'll have a little clean up in the yard but I might have to go to work tomorrow if there is power at the office.

I spoke with my sister and everyone on Dad's side is fine. Their power is out but one phone works randomly.

I tried calling my Mom, but couldn't get through. I am assuming there is no power out her way as well.

by the way, in addition to hurrican hanna, and tropical storm Ike, the "area of activity" that was off the coast of africa yesterday has been upgraded and is now being referred to as Tropical Depression Ten...
