Saw this on the Today Show this morning. Terrifying for those involved. The guy just looked so disconnected. He was just there for vengeance.

Actually, the security guard had called for back-up, opened fire and took out the gunman as soon as he started shooting.

But that WAS one big-butt bag!!

She's very lucky, and very brave and a little bit crazy. She was trying to knock the gun out of his hand. I hope I would have the gumption to act heroically, but if I had a gun pointed at me I might just sit there shocked too.

This happened in my hometown. The wonderful older woman who threw her ummm, (I hesitate to call it a purse) bag has been with the local school system for a VERY long time. I am sure she was terrified, but I do think she was thinking in a helpful manner! As far as the security guard, he is a retired police officer and is known here as "Salvage Santa". He started repairing old bikes to give to needy children at Christmas, 20 years ago, when he was a child abuse investigator! He (as well as a larger group of people) still do this and they take donations of toys as well. He is an amazing human being, and he actually felt a little bad for shooting the man. He actually said, in one video, "I thought he shot you guys", and he sounded upset, even at that point. This is SO terrifying and what is worse, is just moments before this, there were children in the meeting receiving awards. I shutter to think what COULD have happened. Please keep "Salvage Santa" in your prayers, he was taken to the hospital for chest pains after the incident, and like I said he has the heart of a saint and is an amazing man.

I saw that this morning. Terrifying.

I did get a kick out of the lady with the purse but she was very lucky she wasn't killed. He had a perfect shot but luckily he chose not to shoot her.

I also couldn't help but think in seeing these people being interviewed that they're probably still in shock and they're going to have a difficult time with this once reality sets in over the coming weeks. They STILL aren't exactly sure, last night, they couldn't even figure out WHO his wife was, where she worked, or who terminated her. It begs the question, is there really a "fired" wife? This man was clearly INSANE.

I agree, either he wasn't trying to shoot anyone for real, or he was just a really bad shot. I don't care, he clearly wanted to die and he got his wish.

Everyone in that room was VERY brave I think

Seen this across the news all day.What the heck was he thinking.I think Geoff_M stated correct,death by police!! And ChrisFL,everyone was brave in that room to hold there composure to the final second.That was one brave lady trying to knock the gun out of his hand.



I am so pro-gun that this makes me sick.I'm jumping on the boat of people need to be mentaly evaluated before owning one..Never thought I would say that,but I think it needs to happen.

Suicide by cops eh? Didn't work out so well since ultimately he wound up shooting himself. Whoever said that desperate people are dangerous people was right on the money. Thank God he didn't take anyone out with him.
