I don't know, but if Disney found a loophole, great. I believe in bearing arms (on your own property) but I really don't want anyone bringing them to my house or the happiest place on earth.

I think those responses are a little skewed. The NRA was asking all its members to go vote and linked directly to the newspaper.

I missed this - I think that is fantastic news and am glad Disney didn't back down from this.

Hmmm....so that is what FL residents think...wonder what the rest of the world thinks since Walt Disney World attracts so many tourists? I'm glad they found the loophole and hope the courts uphold it. For some reason, this story has really struck a cord and I personally have nothing against guns. DH is a cop and I go to the range and shoot so it has nothing to do with firearms. What ticked me off is I think this was more about one guy looking for a law suit against Disney ($$$) and less about his 2nd amendment rights. If it truly were about his rights, he would work with his legislative who is already trying to fight this in the courts now. Instead he went on his own with a stupid stunt and got his butt canned. Served him right.

Not to get off topic at all but I would like to add my two cents lol to the situation. Being an avid Disney traveler from the northeast, and a former WTC employee, I agree with the Florida State Government in allowing employees to carry concealed weapons to work. In my personal opinion, I also think that Disney should allow these employees to carry these weapons to work as it would be a deterrent to many terrorists who may have their sights set on WDW.

I highly doubt terrorists will be deterred by guns in cars.

Thats a flawed argument. I defend this guys right to carry a gun legally. Saying that he might use it in "road rage" isn't a reason to keep him for carrying it. Disney using the law to keep him from carrying is a good reason. He was wrong because Disney choose to use legal reasons to keep him from bringing it. If he wants to bring it they he should fight the law first to get it overturned.

I have not read the statute in question, but it probably is poorly worded (most are).

The problem seems to be how expansive is the definition of "workplace." Is a cast member's workplace their particular duty station, or does it include all of WDW property? There's quite a difference between someone who works in an office building (that's what -- 15,000 sq. ft?) and WDW (that's x sq. miles).

That being said, I think "test cases" are usually despicable.

Yes, sue was the the wrong choice and I meant to say have the law or loophole at least overturned.

I hope no one gives him anymore attention. I personally own a gun, but cannot understand the desire to bring it to work at WDW. Anything can happen anywhere, but let's be honest....What's the chances of you needing it at WDW? He wanted a circus and he got one. I'm very thankful that Disney found that so called "loophole" because he has some issues that need to be addressed and he should not be working there, especially as a guard.

Dpuck, can I interject with a question? What do you think the transport rules should be? I've tried to look up Florida's rules on transporting guns (and the question boils down to me, does it have to be locked up while being transported or not?) and I honestly can't quite figure out what the rule is.

My brother works for a gun manufacturer, and when transports his own handguns (even to the range), they are securely locked in a lockbox in the trunk of his car. Even though I'm way on the other side of this question, that seems totally reasonable to me.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that banning guns from WDW property (or anywhere for that matter) will stop one from "road rage taken to a new level" or a disgruntled employee from going beserk. Criminals break the laws no matter what they are (that is why they are criminals).
