Gum Chewing - What's Oprah's problem??

Chewing gum is acceptable, and I chew it, but I don't think it's nice to see it in anyones mouth!

As a rule, I don't like gum chewing. It's not attractive. It is better than smoking, which is much, much less attractive.

I tend to always have gum in my mouth, but I really don't chew it in front of people (I'm weird, I guess). I chew it when no one can see me with it. That being said, I'm not offended in the least by people chewing gum. I'd just prefer they stop chewing when they're talking to me.

I was raised by my southern grandmother to think chewing gum in public is rude. I don't like seeing it, or hearing it. It drives me nuts when people do it, but it's pretty accepted, I think. Even my cousin and my husband do it! Well, I'm glad at least Oprah agrees with me...

I remember gum-chewing not being permitted at school, and *especially* not during music class.

DS has had his Chorus graded lowered several times because of this!

I don't have a problem with chewing gum - but sometimes people stick in their mouth and forget them have it there. This happened to my son this Spring - WHEN HE WAS THE MC AT AN EAGLE SCOUT COURT OF HONOR! :faint:

I wanted to strangle him. I was quite a few rows back and couldn't tell him. I was so embarrassed. Then I noticed about 3 more Scouts committing the same offense, including the honored Eagle Scout.

My daughter and I went to a wedding last Saturday. Very tasteful, formal affair. I glanced up during the bridal dance and realized that the bride was chewing gum. That should look great for all the photos and video!! :teeth:

Well, when I gave up smoking, I took up gum chewing with a vengeance. I'll eventually give it up but for now--I don't care if it offends other people.

Big ditto.
I chew alot of gum...I keep Orbit in business now I think!
If I'm on the phone with someone at work, I toss out my gum...no one needs to hear that. (I once had to work with this one woman who I was on the phone with alot...she'd chew gum or eat chips while on the phone with me...so gross!)

I do find myself "snapping" my gum in public sometimes...I was in Filene's the other day and I snapped it and then said "sorry" outloud. Another woman browsing said "honey - who you apologizing too?" hehehe

Some people can chew gum discretely (sp?)...some can't.

but I rather be a gum chewer then go back to smoking. JMO
