Has anybody ever done this. I will be taking a trip to Cape Hatteras with a group this Easter break. I've always wanted to do a deep sea fishing trip. They have gulf stream trips and the main fish at this time is the Blue Fin Tuna. I am wondering how difficult this is. Also I wonder what the rules are on keeping a fish if you actually catch one. How strong do you have to be to get one in if you catch one?

I've never been in the NC area, but deep sea fishing here is pretty awesome. I don't get into freshwater or flats fishing at all, but being out in the middle of the ocean is heaven to me. the cool thing is you never know what you're pulling up. I've gone grouper fishing with friends and have caught sharks, electric eels, all kinds of things - pretty sweet. I'm not sure what the minimum keeper size is on a tuna, but it got to be over 100 lbs. and if you've a 150 lb torpedo on the end of your line, it's going to take all of you muscles and skill to bring it in. but the it's fresh tuna for dinner. we have restaurants on the gulf that will cook your catch and serve it to you for dinner for 5 dollars if you take one of their charters. you'll have a great time.

I'd try to call the fishing charter. Many tuna boats keep the tuna the clients catch. Think about it. Either they keep the $500 for your overnight trip or cash in on the $10,000 bluefin tuna you helped reel in.

Bluefin are generally pretty big and pull like heck. :)
