Guitar help needed

My DS messed with his guitar and it is out of tune. I can tune it but I don't know what note each string is supposed to be at. Can anyone help.

I have some musical knowledge but don't play guitar. It can wait until DH gets home but I can't stand him playing it so out of tune.

Meijer (or probably other stores like Walmart, etc) has digital tuners that you plug an electric guitar into (assuming it's electric) and it tells you when you have it tuned right. My son's guitar came with one and it works great.

Okay nevermind my post then. I don't think an acoustic would work with the digital tuner!

I see that you've already used the digital, but for future reference, hold down the 5th fret on the second string and pluck both 1 and 2, tune 2 till the sound the same, repeat with 3. On 4 move down to the 6th fret and go from there, doing the same. Thats how I was taught to do it.

and the 1st string is an E right?

E, A, D, G, B, E from bottom to top - either electric or acoustic.

My band director taught us a little saying to remember that. I remember the letters but not the saying. something about elvis or boys... grr. now thats gonna drive me crazy.

I lied when I say I can't play any guitar but I didn't think Mary Had a Little Lamb and 1 chord counted.

everyone has to start somewhere, and unless someone is a serious prodigy, they started with mary had a little lamb too. Nothing wrong with playign it. it was the first song that I ever learned. Well that and Hot Cross Buns that was poorly adapted from my clarinet music.
