Guilt over going without the kids to a royal room

So DH and I are going for a little 5 night getaway during FD. We had planned a couple of weekend trips that are within a couple of hours of our home, however when the FD came out we said, hey, lets just go to WDW as the cost was comparable out the door for what we would have spent on our 2 weekend getaways.

Anyway, we had originally reserved at the POP, requesting a king bed. But, when POR Riverside had a king room available, we changed as we have always wanted to stay there. DH and I love the water taxi, our kids, well not so much. But then when I found out that our room could be in AB, which is a completely different decor then the mansions, we changed to the royal guest room, as then we know we are in the mansions. That is where the guilt comes in. Now I'm thinking that I will feel guilty as we have 2 daughters, 12 & 5, and that I will feel guilty for being there without them:worried: So I am now second guessing myself and thinking, well we should just change the reservation and stay at the POP. I really don't think I would like the rooms at AB, for this particular trip anyway.

We have 6 children, 2 are on their own, 2 in college, and 2 left at home. We have done a couples trip to WDW twice before, so I'm not feeling guilty about that part. Also, we are taking the 2 youngest in January to AKL, and taking the 4 youngest 12/14.

Thanks for listening.

I am in the exact same boat as you are, DH and I are going alone in sept for the first time. I have gone back and forth about guilt too. We deserve the time alone, we chose disney as well! I decided it simply wasn't worth the extra money to stay mod because I really think we will be on the go so much! On the other hand If money wasn't an object I would choose royal suite too they are soo adorable, best theme!! I could say don't feel guilt all day but that's what moms do! Just do what you want because you deserve it, if you don't think you will be in the room much go cheaper and do something adult only like the keys to the kingdom tour, no guilt there because its adults only or use the extra $$ for a spa day at grand floridian. I'm trying to focus on all things disney we can't do with the kids around :) you will enjoy, your going for you and the hubby. Just keep that in mind!!

I can't help with the guilt - I'm way too good at that!

But we loved our royal rooms at POR :) And that would be me and adult kids - 30 and 28.

It's so quiet and beautiful walking by the river at night to get to the mansions.

for fd would stay with POR - you get the regular dinning - at Pop you would only get quick service unless you paid extra.

besides this a trip just for the two of you - POR is much more romantic - don't sell AB short - did not think would like it at all - staying there changed my mind

in 2010, dw and I went for our 25th anniversary trip. stayed at the contemporary, mk view. we were on the tenth floor. it was the first time, just us in about twenty years. our dd at that point has been to wdw over 20 times in her 16 years. so its not like she has been left out.

as we both spent a lot of time looking out our sliding door at the mk, we both had a little guilt. so the following june we took her to the contemporary, mk view for her graduation present.

we never herd the end of it how she was kicked to the curb. :lmao:

well, this may she got even!!!!:lmao: we took her down in may and wont be home till January 4, 2014.

go and have a good time!!!!! :thumbsup2

Im going on a disney "date" in November with my hunny, and my daughter is 6, we are doing a split stay, but staying in a royal room, i kinda feel bad because she loves princess and the frog, but i also feel bad not taking them, but next year they are going to go, and ill make sure we stay somewhere nice AKL probably :)
