Guillan-Barre, anyone with experience?

Oh Diane - you need a big {{{{{{HUG}}}}}}. :(

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I know this must be scarey for you. It sounds like you are arming yourself with information and demanding answers - that is the first and best step on the road to recovery.

Keep us posted on what you learn.

I am not 100% positive but I believe this is what my MIL had about two years ago. I think it was mainly some milder facial paralysis (in fact we couldn't even tell until we found out from his brother since she didn't tell us). She appears to have made a full recovery.

I will keep you in my prayers and I hope you are feeling better this morning!

{{{hugs}}} Diane. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you are feeling better this morning.

Hi Diane, tough break and I'll be thinking of you.

I had a bad case of GB 30 years and recovered completely. I was treated at Mayo and

back then very little was known about the Syndrome, but that' not true today.

Good luck. Keep in touch with your doctor and keep us posted.

Check out the mayo website at www.mayoclinic.com

Good luck,

herc.

Diane, prayers for peace of mind and a quick recovery are on the way.

Diane,

My aunt had Guillan-Barre a few years ago. From her experience, I think it is critical that you find a doctor who specializes in this disease. I agree with the posters on the G.B. board--you need to get to a hospital. When my aunt was diagnosed, they kept her in intensive care, even though she was doing very well and had very few symptoms initially. I am certainly not an expert, but her doctor (a specialist that has lots of experience with G.B.) said it was critical that she be closely monitored, since she could have a VERY rapid onset of much more serious symptoms. This disorder can progress very quickly, and can result in an inability to breathe on your own, requiring a ventilator. From what my aunt's specialist said, no one knows how far each patient's symptoms will progress, so monitoring in the hospital is crucial. Please find a doctor who specializes in G.B. (my aunt's doctor is out of Emory University Hospital here in Atlanta, but if you would like me to, I can see if she can get him to recommend a specialist in your area). Your doctor needs to take this very seriously.

Diane, I wish that there was something that I could do for you to make things all better, but all I can do is keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Big {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} for you.
All of the Angels are with you in spirit, and when you need to talk too, we'll be there.

Elizabeth, DH is coming home now, and we are going to the ER. I can't even get my doctor to return my call, so I am not wasting any more time. Time to be pro-active!

Diane, my thoughts are with you today! More {{{hugs}}} and prayers for you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Diane. Please know I'll be thinking of you....and please call me if you need to talk.

Diane, I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. {{{Hugs}}} to you and family.

Diane, I do hope that you have been thoroughly checked out at the ER by now, if only for your peace of mind.

My grandmother had G-B syndrome about 15 years ago. She woke up one morning with numbness and tingling, and by that afternoon she was paralyzed from the neck down. Because she was in her late 70's at the time, and not in good health (she had diabetes and congestive heart failure as well), the doctors told us she would never walk again. Fortunately, she chose not to listen to the doctors and did regain all her strength. She did have to use a walker to go longer distances, but I think it was a combination of her other problems as well. She went on to live another 10 years none the worse for wear! PLEASE take care of yourself and keep us updated on your progress.

How scary, and what a doctor to not return a call on something like this. Glad you're being proactive.

Please keep us updated, whether by posting if you can, or by phone to someone who can post and update us.

{{{ Hugs }}}, good thoughts, and prayers, Diane. I hope you were able to get some answers at the ER. Please keep us posted when you can.

Diane-I hope that you are able to get some answers at the ER. All the Angels are behind you 100% for anything you need. We're sending lots of good wishes, prayers & {{{hugs}}} to you!

((((((((((((((((((((Hugs!)))))))))))))))))))))))

Prayers and PD for you, Diane! I hope you have a mild case and recover quickly!

PD and prayers to you, Diane.

I work in a Rehab hospital and we have had quite a few patients with Guillain Barre. Some of them have just been weak and needed therapy to get strong again. Others were on respirators and couldn't move. But even the people with the most severe symptoms recovered. So, if it is G-B, you can hold onto the fact that most people recover completely (or are left with just a little weakness). I hope that gives you a lot of strength for whatever is ahead.
Here's a link about Guillain-Barre Syndrome from the National Institute of Health for anyone who wants more info.
