Diane,
My aunt had Guillan-Barre a few years ago. From her experience, I think it is critical that you find a doctor who specializes in this disease. I agree with the posters on the G.B. board--you need to get to a hospital. When my aunt was diagnosed, they kept her in intensive care, even though she was doing very well and had very few symptoms initially. I am certainly not an expert, but her doctor (a specialist that has lots of experience with G.B.) said it was critical that she be closely monitored, since she could have a VERY rapid onset of much more serious symptoms. This disorder can progress very quickly, and can result in an inability to breathe on your own, requiring a ventilator. From what my aunt's specialist said, no one knows how far each patient's symptoms will progress, so monitoring in the hospital is crucial. Please find a doctor who specializes in G.B. (my aunt's doctor is out of Emory University Hospital here in Atlanta, but if you would like me to, I can see if she can get him to recommend a specialist in your area). Your doctor needs to take this very seriously.
