Guideline Tours/I-5 Traffic

Guideline Tours seem to be the biggest tour company in LA, from what I'm reading, with a 6-hour Grand City/Stars Homes tour running around $70, http://www.tourslosangeles.com/ . Have any of you used them?

Also, since we are staying at DL Hotel, but there are several things we want to do in the direction of Hollywood, it looks like Mapquest most always takes us northbound on I-5. Is that a traffic nightmare early in the day?

Guideline tours have several hotel pickup locations, but none in Anaheim. Are there any tours that pick up at DL Hotel?

I'm interested in hearing about tour companies as well. My sis and I are spending 3 days in Anaheim followed by 2 days in Santa Monica in late June. We're looking for something fun, maybe even a bit cheesy. Any suggestions?

The I-5 is pretty much the only way to get from Orange County to LA in a somewhat decent amount of time. That being said, it is known for horrid traffic and lots of accidents. Plan your drive time carefully. Leave really early, like 6am, or late morning, around 10. With the later time you should miss most of the heavy traffic and just have some residual accident slowing from that morning. The weekends are a little better, but not too much. If you're heading back to Anaheim that night, again, go early...3pm, or late, after 7:30. I would grab a later dinner and movie in hollywood, then head back to the hotel.

To get a feel for it, check sigalert.com, LA and Orange county at various times throughout the day before you get here, that shows you what traffic is doing at that exact time. I live by it when going down to Disney from LA, where I live.
