Has anyone ever bought "Guide to the Magic for Kids?"
DD~7 and DD~5 would probably really like this and I'm thinking of using at as their autograph book for the parks. I was hoping to get some feedback from some fellow DISers about this.

Also is it a bad idea to have kids 7 and 5, share a book to get autographs? I was thinking for the most part I will take their photos together with the characters we see anyway (except maybe for maybe a few princess shots)

Thanks

They also sell a separate autograph book, but the book i describe above has room for autographs as well (so why get both?).

We ordered it last week. My 9 yr old is stalking the mail man waiting for it. He actually just came up the hill from his daily tek to the mailbox. Hoping it will come tomorrow.

That being said, I've heard great revies of it for kids in the 7-10 yr old range.

Would definitely be an issue with our kids sharing it:scared1:. Maybe is they have an issue, scan the pages in and print extras in color?

I am not familiar with the book, so I can't help there. However, I would definitely say no to the sharing idea! For my kids anyway, the autograph books were a great way to help them approach the characters and make a great souvenir when home. If you decide not to go with that particular book, autograph books are available all over the place at Disney. Have a magical trip!:wizard:

Thanks for the feedback
Scanning and copying the pages may work ~ they probably will want their own! I thought about index cards on a ring holder and then I could always scrapbook em in the book later.

Thanks~ that's true we could always get one when we get there if the book doesn't work for us as far as autographs go. I know DM already has Disney $$$ that she is going to let DD and DS spend and they could pick their own out that way.

I still think the book might be a nice way to get the kids familiar with the parks and with what to expect.

I'm also wondering about~

Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids 2008 (Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids By Kids)
Has anyone out there bought this item for their kids?

We just got ours about 2 weeks ago for our 5yr old DD. We have been reading it togather every night to get her more exposed to Disney and the other parks. Seems like a decent guide for kids and she likes it. It is not super informative for adults and such, but it is aimed for kids and does well there I think.

my kids do have Birnbaums and love it. My youngest walks around with it everyday. I got it lasst week on sale at Disney store

The Guide to the magic seems to be along the same lines.

We are most likely going to go the index card route. We altered mini clipboards with each of their favorite characters to put hold the cards

I love your idea of using a mini clipboard and decorating it! Thanks!

I had read that the Birnaums for kids kind of told kids what to expect for each ride ~ I'm wondering if the Guide to Magic Does that as well.

I think the Guide to the Magic for Kids is MUCH (like light years) better than Birnbaum's For Kids/by Kids book.

We have both for my 6.5yo and after going through the Birnbaum's book once...we never looked at it again... the Guide to the Magic book went with us. Every night we wrote in the journal, put the stickers on the rides/attractions we did that day along w/ writing a mini review for each. Before we left we even sat down and colored in all the flags for the countries in World Showcase.

We didn't use this book for autographs. I just picked up one at WDW for dd. The only day we took the book into the parks was for Epcot so dd could get all the CM autographs and stamps in the different countries. All the CMs LOVED the book. Our waitress at Le Cellier actually wrote down the name of it so she could get one for her younger sister when she visited in a few months!

I definitely wouldn't waste my time on the Birnbaum book at all.

As for sharing...I'm not sure, depends on how cooperative your kids are. Dd is 6.5yo and ds is only 2yo so she didn't have to share at all.

We got our girls the Birnbaum's for kids when I picked up my Birnbaum's 2008. The DDs (9 and 10) LOVE it! Just adore it.

Be sure and let us know what you & your son think of it. I'm taking my niece this fall and am debating about what to get her. I'm thinking about getting the Birnbaum book for kids now, just to kind of give her an overview and then getting the Guide to the Magic for her birthday in June (she'll be turning 11). I'm concerned it will be a little young for her, but I like the look of it.

Is it too big for her to tote around the parks? I'm thinking I'll just buy her a regular autograph book for that.

I've been stalking the mailman for this book and my pins from mousepinsonline. Well, I got them both now! I just LOVE this book! The girls and I sat and looked at it for an hour (they are 7 and 5), talking about hidden things and what they liked and didn't like. It even opened dialog for my very scared 5 year old about some of the rides she thought were too scary that maybe aren't! (like pirates of the carribean, maybe?)

Anyway, I love it!
I love the pictures, love the rating area. Love that it gives the kids so many little interactive things to do!

Some say it's too heavy, but not for us. We carried the Disney Character encyclopedia around last time and that sucker is a BIG hardcover book (and it is heavy!). This is lighter than that.

I will leave it behind on the busy Magic Kingdom morning, but I will be glad to bring it for those double stroller days in Epcot World Showcase or the days we plan to just do a lot of parade waiting or shopping. I will have the girls wait to fill in stickers and rate items until we are there next time and it will give them an activity to do as we go. They loved the passports last time, and this will be the same principle, but there will be more to do.

I am very pleased with this purchase :) Plus it's a fun keepsake too! :wizard:

Thank you so much for sharing!:flower3:

I think I'm going to get it. I just got a gift certificate for Amazon.com so I think I'll order through them (even though it's $5 more through them ~but they do have free shipping right now so maybe it's about the same then.)

I was thinking about getting pins too. Did you like the ones you got from mousepinsonline?

I just received mine yesterday, and it looks fabulous! I love how there are little scavenger hunts and activities for the kids in it. I am hiding it away until Friday (our 100th day mark)!

This trip will be dd(7) 7th trip since 2004. What I am curious about is, do children with that kind of exposure still enjoy the book?

I'd really like to hear more about the scavenger hunts in the book. Is there one for each park? How detailed is it? This is something I'm interested because we're planning a laid-back trip in June since we just went and ran ourselves ragged in February. I think a scavenger hunt would be a fun and different way to see the parks.

Thanks,
Christine

How many jounal days does the book have? We will be visiting for 9 days and I am wondering if there are enough journal days in the book to fit out trip?

I looked at the book on Amazon. It has 14 days of journal pages.

I have 2 kids - I am trying to decide if one book would be ok... probably not, but $50 for 2 books ouch!
