Hi All,

Here's a question. We're in the midst of closing resale points (with some minor problems, the closing company LOST our deposit!!). We also took a tour of DVC with a guide during our last visit in Florida. When we are finally DVC members, are we able to have the person who took us on a tour as our DVC guide, or do we have to have the guide that the previous owners had?

The Guide that gave you the tour unless you request a change. FYI don't expect your Guide to be real happy that you bought resale.

I was wondering along similiar lines. We never toured DVC but did call in and spoke to a guide about purchasing AKV. We now have decided to buy BCV resale. If we do any add ons, are we locked into the same guide we originally spoke to on the phone? (He hasn't returned my call since I left him a message saying that since they didn't have any BCV Points available, only a waiting list, we were going to try to purchase resale.) :confused3

Also do you need a guide for anything other than add ons? What contact do you have with them after you close?

When we bought, we first talkted to Disney, our guide is Michele, we purchased a 300pt Resale at VWL, Michele is still our guide, She calls me a few times a year, and we will be purchasing an add on throught her. She has been great about the entire process. Whenever we get back from a trip she always calls to see how everything was. Makes you feel appreciated.

If you gave the Guide your contact info, then the person that you spoke to is your Guide. You can change Guides by speaking to a Manager. A Guide is a DVC sales person, period.

DVC Guides give "tours" to prospective buyers. If you are a member, you can arrange to visit the models if that is what you are looking to see. Your guide will not accompany you in most cases, however.

I briefly spoke to a guide over the phone to see about setting up an apt. We never actually set one up yet. Due to his work schedule and things we have scheduled already I'm not sure if we will be able to work out a time that is convenient for everyone. If we can't work out a time and have to book an apt with another guide and decide to buy who would our actual guide be? The person I spoke to already or the new person? :confused3 I don't want to ruffle any feathers by touring with someone else after speaking to a specific guide already. On the other hand I'm spending alot of money on this trip and would rather not have to mess up things I have been planning for the last 6 months. :goodvibes We're travelling during the free dining promotion so trying to change adrs for example may be difficult now.

Speaking of the free dining program, here's another question: Does it apply to DVC members? I wouldn't think so, but it's worth asking. We've stayed on the free dining before, and to qualify you had to stay at a Disney resort. Technically the DVC properties are Disney resorts, so I just thought I'd ask if the free dining has applied to DVC members when it has been offered in the past.

DVD tracks you in their computer system. I the Guide that you spoke to entered you into their system, and you can bet that he did, he will be your Guide. The next time that you make contact, you will be referred to the same Guide. If your Guide is not available, a temp Guide will be able to talk to you. People say that the Guides are not on commission but in reality their pay is determined by how many contracts or points they sell.

Not the free dining, which isn't really free by the way. Currently DVC Members can pay for the DDP and have it added to their reservation.

Well, for the last few years there's been a free dining program (usually at the end of August, into September, for Canadians anyway) that we have qualified for by staying at a Disney resort. I didn't think it would apply to DVC members though.

Our guide told us clearly that his bonus is related to the sales he makes and that if I spoke to another guide they would then have to split that bonus for my sale. Maybe it's not called commission but it sure sounds like commission to me!

Also when we went for the tour the guide that came out to tour us said, "Hi, we've spoken before, I called you back in March after you requested the DVD". I couldn't believe the person that I spoke to for literally 30 seconds on the phone (I was running out the door) had kept track of me 5 months later when I showed up at SSR for a tour. But I guess it paid off for him!

I have an interesting guide story. Back in '03 we spoke to one guide, just by phone. So in '04 we went to do the tour, the guide we spoke to over the phone was not there that day, so another guide ended up giving us the tour. Fast forward to 2008, we go back again to tour, and guess what, neither of the two guides we previously spoke with/toured with were working that day. So we get a third guide (who, by the way, was much more informative than the others), shows us the AKV models. We fall in love, and end up buying! So I have no idea who got the "bonus" or commission, or whatever it is they call it. But whenever I get any correspondence, it says that our guide is.....(the one who actually was with us when we signed the papers, also known as Guide #3). Talk about confusing!
I was reading that some guides actually call and welcome members home when they are in WDW. This has never happened to us yet. We are prolly black listed for having spoke to like 3 people before actually purchasing!

To me calling the "free" dining program free is a brilliant marketing ploy. Disney uses it to fill the resorts during the slowest time of the year, hurricane season. The reason that I said that it wasn't free is because you are paying full rack rates for your room, you have to stay 5 nights, and you have to buy your admission tickets at full price.
