Guests/visitors in concierge rooms?

This has been puzzling me the last few days. We are staying lodge concierge at the GF in August. My mother decided to join us, but is travelling alone. The cost looked a little high, so she was going to reserve a regular room.

What I was wondering is are you allowed to take guests into a concierge room? What do those of you with split parties do? What happens if you have visitors (e.g. if you have family in FL that call to see you?)

As it stands I think for convenience and 'not wanting to do anything wrong' , she will end up taking a concierge room and paying the extra (with the FT package it's not too much more than a lagoonview), but I just got to thinking about this situation and hadn't seen it addressed before.

Any thoughts?

How many people are staying in your room? If it is fewer than 5, you can register her in your room and pay the $25/night extra adult fee. That way she can go to the lounge with you and just pay for a regular room for herself +25 fee to be added to your concierge room. :)

Did that help?

Because of the package I don't know what to suggest, if you guys weren't on the package and you had less then 5 you could add her to your reservation and she could have a regular room also, but I'm guessing you are on FT so that wouldn't work.

Having her as a guest in your room is fine. Having her use the concierge lounge and it's offerings is not.

I'm not saying that she couldn't have a cup of tea in the afternoon when the lounge is usually empty anyhow, but I've seen people bring in friends who were not staying concierge--or even at the resort--for breakfast, dinner of wine and appetizers, and desserts and cordials in the concierge lounges. (Sad to say that in one case they were people from these boards who "snuck" in their friend who was staying off-property and they ate all their meals in the lounge.)

That's not only inconsiderate of other guests, but IMHO stealing.

Yeah- we have the ft package and there are 4 of us in the room- I guess the extra $25 a day would work, but I think we'll pay for the upgrade. It will be better for her to be in a room next to us.

ducklite- that's exactly the scenario I wouldn't like to be a part of. I'm surprised that the CM's allow this.

I think it would work since her mother would have her own room and a separate FT package. I don't think they would have a problem tacking on the extra fee midway through the trip at the concierge desk.

Hi Anne.. just wanted to say Hi - haven't seen you around much - you must be busy these days.

(oh, and I totally agree with your post)

We are posed with the same dilemma for our Dec trip at the AKL.
However, its with our babysitter. 2 differant ways we are leaning.
We have a suite booked and may book a standard room but pt her name on our room. Or if great codes come out I will just book conecting concierge rooms.
HTH

MOMTOMOOTOO,

May I ask what type of suite you have booked?

We have a 2br one booked for our October trip.

We had booked 2 connecting concierge rooms with the FT Package but we really wanted more room just to relax. We won't be doing many parks this time. I was going to book the 1br suite and then a standard room but I started worrying about who would have access to the concierge room, the rooms being on opposite ends of the resort, etc. so we just booked the 2br suite. We will be in one part of it and my MIL will be in the 2nd bedroom.

Enjoy your trip.

Floridafam,

I booked the 1 b/r but have the babysitter on the room as well. I think if I had booked the 2 b/r I'd be paying for it from the divorce settlement;)

MOMTOMOOTOO,

That's too funny! If DH ever finds out how much the 2br costs I think I'll need a good divorce lawyer;)

Believe me, I have second thoughts every day and then I think about all the reasons just to "live it up".

Have fun!

When we went at Easter we had a 1 bedroom at ALK and our friends were supposed to stay at ASM. We has rented a car and would have had to pick them up, coordinate times etc, so for convenience sake we paid the difference to have them at AKL. When we were checking in they came up to see the lounge and while I was with the concierge they got some breakfast. The CM made a point to say they could not use the lounge and it was uncomfortable getting the point across to them. They made comments about it the whole time. I don't think people should sneak and use the lounge who aren't in a concierge room. The people who are are paying for that service, but that doesn't entitle your family or friends to it.

Well, my mom bit the bullet and booked the concierge room. I really think this will work out best for us- if we end up with connecting rooms, she can babysit some nights, and as she's not a park person, she'll be more than happy to take one of the kids back for a nap.

The whole "different building" aspect also swung it for us- I know WDW is a pretty safe place, but as she's on her own (my dad died last year and she always travelled with him), it'll be so much better for us all to be heading back to the same building at night.

Now, if only I could get her to be as enthusiastic about WDW as I am!!........

Hi Joanna.. so sorry to hear about your Dad. I think a beautiful room at the GF with her grandkids closeby is just the thing for Mom.

I hope you have a wonderful trip

Thanks >>^..^<<

I'm hoping she can have a good time, chill out and relax. She's wild about her two grandchildren, and will love seeing their little faces at the parades and fireworks.

Now less than 10 weeks to go........:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Oh, that's terrible! What a way to put a damper on a trip. We have friends that we keep declining going to WDW with for the same reason. We just know that it would become a problem. It's embarrassing and uncomfortable, not how I want to feel on vacation.

It was uncomfortable to say the least- We had Very graciously paid the difference between AKL and ASM for convenience sake and I thought it rude to not be understanding of the concierge situation. They'd say--well I quess WE have to go to Mara to get a drink or a snack, I suppose We can meet you after you go to the lounge. I wasn't looking for undying gratitude for the upgrade to AKL-we did offer- but didn't enjoy the sarcasm either. Live and learn.

This is probably going to come across wrong:D , if these are close friends you probably should have either tried to have them upgrade to concierge (tell them all the benefits) or you should have gotten a regular room. If I am tavelling with close friends I want to join them for drinks before dinner. You drink in the lounge and they drink in Mara? Defeats the purpose of staying in the same hotel doesn't it?

If these weren't close friends you probably should have just let them stay in Allstars and then you wouldn't have had that situation (you would have met them in the parks or at whatever restaurant you were going to). When you upgraded them I think they assummed it was to the same level you had.

Think about it from their prespective. You had them stay at your hotel so you could be with them more but then they were excluded from continental breakfast, drinks etc.

Hi Beth.. I can see how uncomfortable their comments would make you... I bet you were even starting to feel guilty about using the lounge - because of what they would say next time you saw them.

I imagine it is very difficult to stay with friends when one is staying concierge and one is not at the same hotel...

Like you said - live and learn

Beth, believe me if a friend of mine had been gracious and generous enough to upgrade me from All Star to "any" room at AKL, I would have been thrilled.

Never would I have expected them to included me in concierge. They were not being very thoughtful of your feelings.

We have stayed many times at Disney resorts and had friends in concierge. It never put a damper on anything.

I am sorry for you that some can't appreciate a gift in the matter it was given.
