Guests uning quick service restaurant tables

Neither does anyone not on here, sunshine. That would be why it's a "problem". In actuality, Disney isn't doing it because a few people on a message board are mad about it (I know that is a shock to some people on here), and most people complaining to Disney aren't griping about the people sitting there, they are complaining simply that there aren't enough tables for the crowds. So, Disney is handling it the most cost effective way. Rather than increasing seating capacity, they are limiting who and when you can sit down.

Absolutely. They're doing it because a LOT of people IN PERSON complained about not being able to find a place to sit and eat the food the bought, because a lot of other people were/are holding tables long before they had food and thus ling before they actually needed tables.

re: the poster(s?) who commented about parents thinking they're "more special" than others... well, no, I don't think parents think that. More often than not, I would venture that parents are trying to minimize stress for EVERYONE - including other patrons of the restaurant.

I respectfully disagree. You're thinking small-scale - just this thread. Just based on various threads on the DIS over the years, many parents do think this way, that having kids makes them special, that they/the kids should get special treatment.

Right now. There's a thread from a mother upset because her twins couldn't get individual pictures with a character but a couple in their thirties spent time with the character and got a picture, and a mother with a two-month-old(! yes, another child but one who won't remember the trip) also spent time with the character. There's another thread from a parent who thinks it should be illegal for parents on a plane to be separated from their child/ren under ten.

Virtually everyone in their normal, everyday life, when they go into a counter service restaurant with any sort of group does this. Yes, they actually do, I'm sorry that you live in a land of make believe, but fortunately for the rest of us, the really real world actually exists, and judgemental, myopic people like you are generally the ones that aggravate us when we are trying to enjoy our vacation.

Personally I can't stand it when a large group of people get in line ot order food. It's nuts having a bunch of people try and order at the same time and inevitably half of them don't even know what they want when they reach the window.

I see it as normal when a family splits up and sends 1-2 to get the food and the rest sit down and get out of the way.

IMO, provided the people at the table have ordered or have someone in line getting their order they have the same privilege to occupy that table.

While we do 95% of our meals as TS when at WDW at this point in our trips, when we do CS it takes me about 30 seconds to order food for the family.

I think we've all been in line wishing the family of "ummm, uhhh, what do you want? what do you want? I don't know, you go first" would have made up their mind and only sent one person to order.

I don't think me in my kids are any more or less special then anyone. I don't take them out of line because they don't know how to behave and would be disruptive but to eliminate a backlog of people.

If there are an abundance of tables we will sit to wait. If it is super busy we wait until we have food.

When we go to McDonald's (and I'm not sure why this ever came into play) we order food, fill our drinks get our ketchup, napkins...etc and then go back to get our food. Then we go to sit down..... I've never been to a McDonalds that was so busy we couldn't find a table. I've also never been to a McDonalds that took more then three minutes to get our food...

I think it is sad that there has to be a system put in place because people can't be considerate and mindful of other people.

And yes ~ I would let strangers sit with us or give them our seat if we could if they couldn't find a place to sit. I would never approach a stranger because I have stranger anxiety (is that a real thing or am I just crazy?) but I would be fine if they approached us.

Nope, they are complaining simply that they don't have a place to sit, Disney is simply determining the most cost effective solution. They are complaining about not having seats. Unlike the DIS, most people aren't busybodies walking around examining what each and every family is doing at a given table.

Not everyone, on or off the DIS, by necessity or consideration.
Every non-Disney counter service place I've ever been to (except Sonic) has ample waiting space in the 'lobby' and has never had all its tables occupied at once - so your comparing apples and oranges.

Rules? I think you have that backwards. A lack of enforcement of a procedure doesnt make a behavior a rule. The behavior itself can be self-centered and inconsiderate toward others, but I'd hate to think Disney has to enforce common sense.

What people are doing in terms of getting a table is exactly what the majority of people do in their everyday lives in the really real world. Yep. The fact is people at Disney are, in general, exhibiting normal, accepted behavior and aren't being rude or in any way intentionally trying to be inconsiderate. The only reason it is an issue is because when Disney is crowded, others can't find seats and they complain that they can't find seats. I'm sure a few DISers walk around and also tell the CMs that tables 5,8,42,79 and 113 have people there not eating because they are waiting on food, but normal people don't care, they just want to sit. Disney figures their current method is cheaper than providing additional seats and real estate.

In the spirit of honesty - I've probably been to McDonaldsonce in the last year - and it was incentive for my DD to get her shots at the doctors. I guess ours is probably busy from time to time I just haven't seen it.

YES, virtually everyone with a family does this in McD's (billions and billions served, and all that), BK, Wendy's, Taco Bell (do I really need to go on?). 3. it's not a problem even at WDW when the crowds are low (hence, not a rule then).

Thanks for the dole whip, I meant counter service in my post, my mistake. And I still think you are wrong in your statements, as otherwise, 99.9% of the tables would be full, all the time.

Well, that's an oxymoron - normal people don't care, they just want to sit? Of course they care, because they want to sit, but people are there without food, waiting for someone else who is in line for 10-15 minutes or so.

I believe in harm none, so I will wish you this - may your next trip to WDW be full of people at tables, especially when you would like a place to sit, with your tray of food. When this happens I wish you the enlightenment so that you see how rude it is to sit at a table without food while others are trying to find a place to sit.

I do try to get a table while my husband gets the food. Why? I am in a wheelchair and there are limited tables that I can use with hassling others to move out of the way. Yes I know that the aisles are supposed for a wheelchair to pass and they are as long as the tables are unoccupied. Once occupied that aisle becomes impassible. I have had CM tell me I have to wait for my husband and the food and then find a table and then we have had to eat with our food on top of the garbage cans because there are no tables that are accessible. Yes there are seats available but they are not accessible. And then the CM just shrug and tell us that's not their problem. I will take that table and wait for hubby to bring food. I will also gladly share a table with others as it is usually just the 2 of us.

Doesn't ADA have a part about having accessible tables? There should be a percentage of tables with at least one less chair, and a blue HA icon, and a clear enough area around it to negotiate in a wheelchair. I'll try to find the section tomorrow, if I have time.

Disney isn't going to schedule and pay extra staff simply because a handful of people on an Internet forum complain about how the seating works (or doesn't) in counter service restaurants. Disney IS going to make changes when they get multiple live complaints from multiple actual persons. It's called good customer service.

I'm also confused why you have the impression anybody is 'walking around examining what each and every family is doing at a given table'. It's genuinely hard NOT to notice a table with no signs of food when you're looking at tables (not people) for a place where you can eat the food you're toting for ten minutes.
