Guests behaving badly

One thing that just occurred to me in the conversation about other cruise lines and lack of drunks is that my experience with all inclusive drinks packages is they water them down so much you can’t get drunk even if you tried. I remember one day I probably ordered 4 or 5 poolside drinks at an all inclusive and didn’t even feel a buzz. On Disney, I remember I couldn’t even finish one cocktail because it was so strong. I wonder if that contributes to some of the drunk folks on DCL—they are used to drinking all day on Royal or Carnival and not used to Disney giving you “real” drinks.

I've only had an all inclusive package once on Holland America - was the exact same thing - mixed drinks were very very weak. If we wanted a buzz we switched to wine. I brought it up on CruiseCritic and was thoroughly chastised and called a drunk :rolleyes1

 May I ask :
How did DCL allow a 16 yo to have a drink?
Don't get me wrong, I'm kind of OK with a 16yo having a glass of champagne for a NYE's toast, but the cruise allowing that? wow.

- on NYE the bar servers are walking around with trays of champagne and everyone just grabs them off of the tray. The drinks are in DCL plastic glasses. Once they pass those out, they then come around with open bottles and refill your glass. DD was served by a few of the bartenders with the open champagne bottles. No one was checking IDs. She and her friends from the Vibe had a great time that night. And this happened in full view of the white suits (officers). The disappointing part was that the staff wouldn't even talk to me about how to prevent this in the future. They didn't want to discuss it at all. Just ignore it. Food and Beverage told me it was a security problem. Security didn't care and thought it was a food and beverage problem.

Several years ago we were on the tram from Serenity Bay - had to switch and get on one at the family beach. A family with 3 teenagers got on and sat right in front of us. They had a 14-15 yr old daughter were was very obviously drunk out of her mind. Like dangerously drunk. She kept trying to lay on the floor right in front of the seat, she was belligerent, swearing, crying then laughing. She could not hold her head up, stay awake for long, stand on her own, walk or ever talk clearly. The parents did NOTHING. Her two siblings were the ones trying to take care of her.

Needless to say we were shocked.

We did notify CMs as soon as we got off the tram. Mostly because I was sincerely worried about her since her parents didn't seem to care at all. The completely ignored her. I have no idea if anything was done or not.

LOL I think if someone called me a drunk online I'd take it as either a compliment or a challenge :)
But I can relate. Our first cruise my wife had the sail away drink and the server said he would adult the drink for the dollar or whatever the cost was. He literally poured a cap full of rum from the mickey bottle in her drink. That was the last drink he sold in our area. Next cruise we told the story to the server who made up for it :) :)

I can see the same thing being possible on the captain’s night cocktails. It was also grab and go. I personally would have allowed my teens also to have a drink or two. But in this case the teens saw opportunity. Heck as recall in my youth I recalled taking advantage of opportunities.

Does anyone know the protocol for guests that may drink more than then they should an act unacceptably?
Can they be made to stay in their room or removed from the ship?

I don’t know how bad it has to be. On our first cruise, someone made a scene (he was not violent, just ranting out loud to make sure everybody knew he had paid 4000$ for a 3 nights cruise and he deserved to be able to smoke his cigar, followed with a « We wanna smoke! We wanna smoke! chant as if he was into some sort of demonstration) and all the bartender did was giggling nervously.

we were wondering what the cruises lines with the all you can drink packages are like. Really did not see anyone out of control on our last cruise.

But you want to see bad parents, take a Mediterranean cruise. Kids running wild at dinner and the shows and parents do nothing.

Sailed with Carnival a few times. We’ve seen one or two bad apples on one cruise (not violent though) but most cruise were quiet and uneventful. Looks like most people having drink packages handle their alcohol intake very well.

I saw a guy bragging about having topped his drink package (15 drinks) by 2:00 PM that day (it was 3:00 PM) and honestly, if the guy had not said it, I wouldn’t have known. He was pleasant and a little bit chatty with the crew, that’s it.

Interesting. My husband and I have the drink package for our upcoming cruise. I’m very sensitive to alcohol because I don’t drink much. I can’t wait to see if they are watered down. I should know pretty fast. ;)

The drunkest person I saw was my 16 yo on NYE after she was served multiple glasses of champagne by the staff and fell down in front of officers. Her drunk friends took her to the infirmary where she got a liter of saline in an IV. ($1016 that we had to pay before we disembarked). Next day she didn't have a hang over but her friends did (too bad because she deserved to reap the rewards of her antics) The staff at the Vibe wondered what happened to the kids after the midnight fireworks since they never returned back to the Vibe. I still wonder what would have happened if they went back to the Vibe drunk.

Did the infirmary treat your minor child without getting your approval first? Obviously, I would never deny my child needed medical care, but if that liter of saline wasn’t an emergency life-saving measure, I would be angry if a doctor did that without asking me first.

So, not drunk, but one the 'guests behaving badly' theme.... I was doing my laundry on deck 9 of the Fantasy... the big room with several machines. But, it was mid-week and lots of people were trying to get their laundry done. All the dryers were full, but 2 of them were full of clothes that had been sitting there, completed my whole wash cycle. Finally, someone decided to remove them and put them on the table (not the floor or anywhere else, just a nice clean table). Well, about 10 minutes later, the owner comes in and throws a hissy fit because someone dared to touch her laundry. We all just waited until it was over and she was gone before laughing. I don't know how she expected it was okay to hog the machines for that long.

While not necessarily behaving badly, we had a very funny moment, that could have ended very badly.

A grandma with two under 10 kids was on one of those scooters and backed off the elevator at full tilt not watching where she was going and backed into the railing in the middle of the stairs (had she been a little more left or right this would have not been funny at all). She seemed upset that the railing got in her way. Then in true kids say what is on their mind with zero filter, the grandson says, Grandma maybe you shouldn't have drank so much!
