I was wondering if anyone has the contact info for guest services/special diets for USO? I have health issues & have some dietary restrictions. I am assuming that they would be just as accommodating as Disney. But since this whole thing is rather new to me, I'd like to talk to someone there to find out if this will be a possibility & what I need to do so we can enjoy a trip there & I can still eat.

TIA!

Anything anyone can tell me about traveling to USO with special needs would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and if it matters - the kids in our party have no special needs, it's just me with the issues.

nothing about universal is as user friendly as disney, including special diets..

i haven't succeeded yet in finding the number to contact (if there is one)..

there have been threads about special dietary needs in the past year.

do a search and they will come up.

i remember a number was given out for contact info.

go to the bottom of the first page on the forum site.

change the dates to include the past year for your search.

if i do find the threads you need, i will return and post them for you.

i changed my ascending, descinding dates then went to the upper top right section to find the threads for you.

many found.
first one gives you a name and number:

in a longer thread, damo posts this with numbers & 411:

This is what I came up with in a google search:

Thank you for contacting Universal Orlando®.
It was a pleasure speaking to you via telephone. As we discussed, we offer a variety of fresh, delicious food for our guests to enjoy. For the convenience of our guests with special dietary needs, we have chefs in residence at each of our full-service restaurants (Lombard’s Seafood Grille and Finnegan’s Bar & Grill in Universal Studios Florida®, and Mythos Restaurant® and Confisco Grille® in Universal’s Islands of Adventure®) who can create meals customized to suit individual tastes and needs. In addition, the managers at any of our quick-service restaurants can assist with specific menu questions to help you select appropriate items during your visit.

For the convenience of our guests with gluten allergies, Monsters Café in Universal Studios Florida®, and the Thunder Falls Terrace in Islands of Adventure®, offer the following gluten-free options: roasted chicken; smoked chicken; smoked ribs; smoked turkey legs; roasted potatoes with onions, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper; roasted corn; baked potatoes; french fries cooked in canola oil; and salads.

In addition, our full-service restaurants serve gluten-free pasta, and food carts throughout the parks serve apples, oranges, grapes, watermelon slices. The lemon slush drinks and turkey legs available throughout the parks are also gluten-free.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at (407) 224-4233, option nine (9).

Gluten Free Dining
Can anyone with Celiac Disease recount their experience at Universal?

I am considering asking for a refrigerator in our RPR room so that I might go shopping at Whole Foods before we arrive. We are flying in so I can't very well pack a cooler from home.

I just dread explaining gluten allergy to every wait person/chef/manager at Universal...three times a day for 5 days. If I hear "Our white bread doesn't have wheat in it..." one more time... Or "You can eat the white rice but not the brown... because the brown RICE is made from wheat..."

I am sure I will be fine but would love to hear the experiences of others.

Thanks!

I have no comments about dealing with it, but I have had some experiences with requesting room accomodations. Certain diseases are covered under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) such as diabetes (which my FIL has - thus my experience). Not usre if Celiac is. However, hotels are required by law to provide you with certain accomodations, and a free refirgerator is one of them. Most of the time they are happy to comply, but occasionally you get an inexperienced reservationist who insists on charging you for the fridge. If that happens, mention the ADA and/or ask to speak to a manager.

Stop at Guest Services at either park and ask to speak to the Foods manager about a gluten free meal. They can let you know which places serve gluten free menus.

instead of posting the entire thread, this info was repeated again in an other thread.:

That is why I recommended going to guest services and speaking to the food manager (not the chef) of the park. They can give you more information and it would not be in front of everyone at the restaurant.

this is just a start to help you out.

it's time for my lunch.

i'll check back later...........

do inquire by email or phone prior to leaving home.

also, talk to guest services and talk to the Food Manager of the Park....

I did a search & got a couple results back but didn't see contact info. I'll try again when I get home from work.

From the threads it looks like it won't be as smooth as WDW, but that if I actually spoke to someone & avoided counter service, it would be doable.

leota, you did not state if you were staying onsite or what dietary restrictions you have.

i only picked basic past threads and quotes as i have no idea what your food needs are.

if you would post what restrictions you are dealing with in eating out at the park/hotel, i might find different threads to help your cause.

but, you do have some numbers and basic info on how to contact UO for help in your needs.

nothing above helped you??

did you make any calls from the numbers i gave you from my post?
some have phone numbers for contact to UO

It look slike we posted at the same time - I'll go back & read everything now. I'm sure I can find what I need with all that. Thanks so much

Oh, restrictions are gluten, dairy, high fat & raw veg....really stinks.... but such is life....

i did see quite a few for gluten free diets.
high fats and dairy.

i didn't copy them over here.
ugh.

there was probably other info on those threads i did not copy for your needs.i did glance thru the posts and remembered that.

i'll try again at a later time.

in the menu and pics sticky, damo has listed menus.

i know at mythos, that menu is listed with info tagged on gluten free foods that can be obtained on the present menu.

Macraven - you have been MORE than helpful! Don't worry about it. I see lots of info in your posts that will help tremendously & I will keep hitting the search function. Really, the hardest part is the gluten because it hides in so many things. Avoiding the rest is pretty straightforward. I see some info on which CS places have GF stuff, so I should be all set.

I'll check the menus & see which places have stuff I think I can eat & then run it by the guest services number you gave me to confirm. I don't expect them to make me anything special or anything like that - I'm sure I can find plenty to eat without that kind of bother.

Thanks again for your help! :goodvibes

there are many homies that post that have issues with gluten free products.

i'll try to find those threads.

but do contact guest services and talk to the food manager of the park.

i looked at the mythos menu and see what is starred as gluten free.
for some of the food dishes it states, can be made gluten free, tell the server.

check the menus in the sticky.

damo posted recent menus there and i did see gf on some of the items.
