Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

My husband gets really random motion sickness and vertigo and has been going back and forth on if he should ride or not. Sometimes he's fine and other times he's not.
My husband did the queue with me and just told them he wasn't going to ride the ride, it was fine.

Regarding your husband's vertigo/motion sickness: if he can handle going straight up and down, there won't be any issues. I can't do motion simulators or spinning rides, or going backward rides, but the up and down drops don't bother me at all. I had no issues on the ride at all except for my ears getting very sore from people screaming.

My husband can ride CS and Space once each, and then he's done with them because of motion sickness, but he could have ridden GotG over and over without issue.

I rode it twice on our trip, the end of June. I also had never ridden TOT, but the GOTG theming made me try it. I am NOT a thrill ride person. Heights and drops are not my thing, but I told myself I was going to give this a try. Big Thunder Mountain is my favorite roller coaster. The Matterhorn and Space Mountain I do with the family, but I wouldn't ride them if they didn't. I'm not sure if he's ever ridden Mission Space in Florida, but THAT gave me some strange vertigo issues after riding it, back before they had a calm side and a full power side.

I have to admit, I enjoyed GOTG. Our pictures from the ride don't bear that out. I'm holding on to the seat handles for dear life and in one of the pictures I look like I'm struggling in the restroom from a diet that includes way too much cheese, but it was pretty fun. The lift acceleration is as smooth as they can make it and then you get a weightless feeling in the drops. It does bounce a bit during some of the stops, but it's not jerky and I never got a dizzy motion out of it. It was more of a, "oh crap, how far is it going to fall this time," sensation. I will say that I've had issues with pinched nerves in my back in the past and both times after the ride I could feel it in my back. I never felt hurt, I could just feel my back, if that makes sense.

Thank you for your thoughts! He has done Mission Space but the calm versions and was ok. He doesn't like Space Mountain. Did that once and skips it now. He says it's too jerky. Is the one at DL pretty much the same as WDW?

It's funny you say that about your back because he's having back surgery 2 weeks after we get back. He's got a massive herniated disc and is always in pain and the slightest things bother him so now I wonder about this ride too. Although at this point his back is so bad he pretty much just medicates and goes for it and will do his best to enjoy vacation.

Space at DLR is WAY better than the WDW version. Smoother and definitely not jerky. We were one-and-done with Space at WDW, but we ride it several times whenever we go to DLR (well, my husband rides once because it gives him a headache, but the rest of us ride several times).

My 2 cents on the DLR versus WDW versions of Space Mountain are they are different. I kind of liked the DLR version because it seems faster. I also kind of had the WDW version memorized because it was ride a bit, do a tight turn, then drop a little, do that again, then the final turn you drop twice as far as the others, causing you to potentially crap yourself. The DLR version didn't do the drops, but it was faster with more turns, I thought. The DLR version did jerk me from side to side, especially in the end, but not as bad as the Matterhorn jerks you around.

I have a herniated disk (a young doctor told me it happens to all us old people). It has bothered me from time to time, but not to the point of needing surgery. I feel for your husband with that. That said, the one thing I can say about GOTG is that it's smooth. There's significant acceleration and deceleration vertically, but I didn't find it jerky. It's a little bouncy while they show you a scene. I read somewhere they do that to simulate a 3D effect. Good luck with your decision and your trip.

That's good to know about Space Mountain. I'm going to try to get him to give it a try!

I just asked him about the up and down and he said that and real subtle shaking bother him the most. He does try to avoid elevators when he can so I don't know what he's going to do. He typically avoids spinning rides for sure like teacups and any coasters that go upside down and drop rides. But he did all the motion simulator rides and Universal and was ok although he did say Mummy and Forbidden Journey bothered him a tiny bit. And he's also been fine on other big coasters and Everest as well which goes backwards. It's just real random!

I told him to just take his Meclizine with us and maybe we can try to ride it last thing if he's feeling up to it!

It's been a month since I've been back from our visit. I didn't really have high expectations when I heard about the change from TOT and I really only went on it because it was the "new thing."

I think it's the funnest ride I have been on in any of the Disney parks. It's a wild, crazy ride. The music adds a lot to the overall enjoyment. Everyone in the car was having a blast.

My family and I are going to be talking about that first ride for the rest of our lives.

We loved it!

We rode it 4 times this past weekend and it's a blast (and we love MaxPass)! The music, the projections, the random drops, and the theme all work very well. Dare I commit blasphemy and say it's better than ToT...We rode ToT several times on it's final weekend in Dec/Jan, but 9 months apart may have been too long to pass judgement. We can get a 1 month comparison as we are headed to WDW in early October.
