Guaranteed Connecting Rooms For Families

I called to confirm my connecting room with reservations and they swear that it is guranteed. I just don't know what to think. Because, you have to figure that there are only so many rooms that are unoccupied per day and from that they have to find connecting rooms. And then say they gurantee it to 12 families. What if they don't have enough rooms??:confused3
Do you think they figure, lets get um here??

When I spoke with a CM yesterday about 2 room connecting, he did say they would do what they could, but there is no gaurentee! I think the only time it will be is when 1 adult is with 5 or more children (so 2 rooms are needed, but there is no adult to stay in the other room.

They won't even book a reservation that way. An adult must be on every room reservation - no exceptions. That family would have to book a suite.

There was a thread on the Resorts board some months back where a lady could not book online with her 3 kids because 2 of them were under 3 and it wouldn't allow her to book 2 infants in the same room with only 1 adult. She had a terrible time getting her reservation, even though she also had a teenager to help her.

Another point is that even if Disney absolutely cannot provide connecting rooms on your arrival, they will usually offer to move you the next day when other rooms vacate. It's not ideal to have to move after one night, but seems it's preferable to being separate for the whole trip.

I use to work in Reservations for a large resort here in WI and it was our policy not to guarantee rooms to be connecting as we had very limited number...but being in reservations we were able to manually assign the rooms ahead of time especially when you knew the guest really wanted them...At this particular resort the room numbers are not specifically assigned until the guest gets there..unless you have a special request, those are reviewed usually the day or so before..and if it came down to a point where we had a lot of requests for connecting rooms we would then base it on how many adult and how many children..if we couldn't get them connecting we'd at least try to keep them close together..i know how much of a pain it can be to not get connecting rooms but you have to remember that some hotels only have so many of those styles..and sometimes it can depend on the room style as well, our resort only had connecting rooms for basic rooms unless you got a larger suite then you had different options..I hope this helps!

We have always gotten them.

They are guaranteed..absolutely. It is in writing on your reservation. If your reservation says 'guaranteed connecting rooms for families" then by golly you best be guaranteed a reservation.

When I get my email confirmation, I can click on my reservation and it is in writing in black and white. I always print this out to travel with me.

If you had trouble, you show them the paper. I would not take no for an answer. If they didn't have it in writing, that's one thing. but if they are willing to put it in writing, then they have to stand by it.

I have been to Disney many many times. I have never not been granted a request..even for a building/location. I'm very impressed. Many many others also will attest to that. If they go out of their way to grant building/location requests, I would have a hunch they would do so for something they guarantee in writing first and foremost.

Except that, according to DISers who have not gotten them when they've had the written guarantee in hand, they don't have to stand by it. Granted, they won't charge you for a room if you don't take it, but that doesn't do you a lot of good when you are standing at the front desk of Pop. And what are you going to do if they say no? If you don't take no for an answer, they WILL eventually have security escort you out.

Again, read the wording on their web site. It explains that nothing is really guaranteed, that all you are doing is making a request. That is to protect them in case something unforseen happens, such as a pipe burst or a bed bug infestation.

I have many times not gotten requests, in fact I have probably not gotten my requests more ofthen than they were granted. Requested any room in the Bayou section of POR: Nope, was put in Mansions. Requested third floor Raratonga at the Poly, got 1st floor Tokelau. PAID FOR PREFERRED AT THE MUSIC, WAS PLACED IN BROADWAY, which is so NOT prefered! Connecting rooms at the Contemporary? Nope!

All Disney guarantees is a room for you, and according to the verbage in your reservation, that is all. It is more like a connecting room is guaranteed, if they are available. You can always argue that you have it in writing, but they can't make a type of room availabe if it just isn't. As the CM at the Music explained to me when I wasn't happy with my relocation, people extend stays and Disney won't make them switch rooms to accomodate people that are not checked in yet.

We had a Grand Gathering with 3 families, a total of 11 people. Two of the rooms were connected, and one was not. We didn't request for it, but did ask if they would be. The CM said there was no guarantee.

But then, we weren't having kids in a separate room, so that is probably a difference.

No, that is not correct. According to the verbage on my reservation, it SAYS "guaranteed connecting rooms for families". If they SAY it is guaranteed, they have to guarantee it. They don't say "we'll do what we can". It actually said guaranteed..and that's my point. They can't guarantee something and then not guarantee it. Makes no sense.

We have always requested connecting and always have gotten them.

I highly doubt Disney would separate an immediate family--mom/dad/kids.

I also highly doubt Disney would escort you out for throwing a tantrum about it. I've seen much worse than that happen, and CMs haven't done anything.

I'd like to hear it from an actual family that this happened to (dad in one room with kids, mom in another with kids)...not it happened to someone else on this board, or it happened to my SIL's family, cousin's family, friend's family, etc.

Even if they didn't have a connecting room at your resort, I'm sure they would be able to find one somewhere and I doubt they would make you pay any difference.

Just my two cents. ;)

Even if it says 'Guaranteed' ..nothing is guaranteed in life .Except death and taxes.I personally know people that have had "guaranteed connecting rooms" due to children outnumbering adults and guess what? they didn't get them. You can argue the point all you want with Disney. They can't give you what they don't have. Will they compensate you for your aggravation and try to make good? sure. But that still may not mean what you asked for in the first place

Disney tells me that my reservation has guaranteed connecting rooms. I have had experience with this and never had a problem. I always get the connecting rooms. :woohoo:Someone on another discussion board says they are not really guaranteed. :confused3 I believe Disney. :thumbsup2Has anyone had experience with this or even have some inside info. I really don't want my hubby and kids in the 80's building at Pop while the rest of my kids and myself are in the 50's. That is not how I see our vacation!

Each time I made a reservation for connecting rooms, I got it.

June trip - Connecting rooms "guarenteed" because we were a family, 2 adults 3 kids. Upon checkin... they were not connecting. They were "adjacent". I calmly explained it was told to me that they were guaranteed and my DH and I wouldn't be sleeping in seperate rooms AND they did some moving around and got us our connecting room.

So, I don't REALLY think they are guaranteed, but I do believe that the CMs at the desk will do as much as possible to accomodate.

Follow this link if it works. Disney explains there is no such thing as a room guarantee. Even if you have it on your reservation, Disney has this to fall back on.

I agree that it makes absolutely no sense to use the word guarantee on reservation, and then turn around and say you guarantee nothing. But there it is.

As a family of 7, we always need 2 rooms. We were split up at a Residence Inn - we reserved a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, and got 2 1 bedrooms rooms across the hall from each other. This spring, I reserved adjoining rooms at a Country Inn, and it turned out the one and only ajoining room was being renovated. I no longer expect that the rooms will be ajoining, but keep my fingers crossed. We had to stay in a B&B for a party recently, no ajoining rooms, and we weren't even on the same floor!

Wow! That stinks! Hopefully our request will be honored.:flower3:

Wow, people get heated over the smallest things. Really is this something worth arguing over?

Every other room is connecting. So like room 1 connects with room 2 which adjoins with room 3 which connects with room 4 and so on.

We have always gotten what we requested. Some people don't.

OP, I forget if it's 4 or 10 days before your check in date you can call the actual resort and talk to them about your requests, you can also fax your requests directly to them at that time. Explain your reason. They will do their best to accomadate you. I'm not sure about the whole garuntee thing. But I highly doubt you will be in different buildings. It's also been my experience that Pop is very accomadating. Good luck and don't stress about it. I'm sure if for some strange reason you are not connecting you will still be close, so just bring the kids to the other room while you shower.

This may work for some but it didn't work for me. I called 4 days before my check-in date to confirm about the connecting rooms. And I offered to fax my request as well. The CM's response was to pleasantly say that all they can do is "note the request in the reservation." I had heard that phrase more than once along this planning experience, so I basically just gave up. Like a PP said, there's a finite # of connecting rooms, and when they're gone, they're gone. Disney has a better reputation for customer service than most companies, so I figured that they'd do what they could. We arrived at the CR around 1:30 p.m. or so, thinking that might help. The bottom line was that we did get connecting rooms and were so happy it worked out :yay:

I think that is overreacting a touch! But, I do agree that can't make them apear out of thin air.
And I will make if very clear that I am not happy. I don't ever complain but I will complain in that case!! I will not spend my vacation apart from my family. This is a reasonable request in my opinion. Disney needs to accomodate the fact that I have to put out the money for two rooms (I am not sharing with another family this is MY family).
Oh, don't worry about it. There are a bunch of alarmists on this board when this subject comes up and they scare the crap out of everybody telling them it's not ever a guarantee. Yes, there is a minute possibility that in a very crowded time of the year, like summer or the holiday season, that you may not get a connecting room. It's a very remote possiblity and not worth stressing out about. And also, Disney is not going to cart you out for being mad or having a "trantrum." God knows I've seen enough of those in all of the trips we have been to Disney and I've never seen security called. And if Disney really want to stop "upsetting" everybody then they should stop printing "guaranteed" on their reservations receipt.

Also, just an FYI, a teacher friend of mine who has four kids told me recently that a couple of years ago when they checked into Pop during Thanksgiving week, they were out of connecting rooms and upgraded them to Carribean Beach Resort. Now, I'm not saying that they do that a lot, but it does happen.

Lighten up people.

If you are every making a reservation at Disney and you want two rooms with a door in between you must ask for connecting rooms. Adjoining rooms just means beside or near each other.
