How exactly do you book a GTY verandah? Can you book a GTY for mid ship specifically? I am concerned about the motion and I only ever see option for “VGT w/restrictions” in which there is no options at all, so I am a bit confused between the two. Any help appreciated…

Ok...you can't book a regular GTY unless the category you want is in GTY status, meaning DCL already sold their target amount of cabins in that category. Any further cabins sold will be in GTY status and DCL will assign your cabin at a later date. Price is the same as if you were able to pick your own room. If the category you want is in GTY status you can't be assured your cabin will end up in that category. DCL guarantees you will be in that category or a higher category meaning you could possibly have booked a GTY category that was in the midship area but assigned a higher category in a different location.

*GT rooms are a different breed. These are discounted rates with restrictions. They often show up when DCL wants book more cabins on a particular sailing. The website will show wording like....guaranteed ocean view with restrictions or something similar. If available on a particular sailing you can choose *IGT (inside), *OGT (ocean view) or *VGT (verandah). You don't pick a specific category like a 5A but a general category like Inside, Ocean View or Verandah. Some sailings offer all three categories and some only offer one of those. All depends on what DCL is trying to sell. You will not be able to change cabins if you do not like what you are assigned. Personally, we have booked *GT rates several times with great results. Even got connecting cabins assigned earlier this month on our Dream cruise. These rates do not allow changes and must be paid in full at time of booking.

So if you want a "guarantee"... don't book one of these special rates, just pick your cabin and pay the rate listed.

But we have done the GT rates and done very well... even done groups and gotten connecting or at least nearby rooms (which isn't guaranteed). Only issue is when someone in your group gets a better upgrade than the rest of you. ;) ;)

I agree...if anyone wants a specific cabin or area try to book as soon as possible so you have better chance of picking the cabin you want....before anything goes into GTY status.

That's fabulous news about the connecting! We just booked VGT rooms on the Magic for January out of Galveston (we're Texans) and are sorta kinda hoping we get connecting rooms. I actually think the Navigator Verandahs are cute and the partially obstructed ones don't look that obstructed from what I saw online so I'm happy with whatever because it was 35% less expensive. Yup $1200 cheaper for a week long cruise PER room. That's worth it.

Thank you for clarifying - took the risk and booked the VGT! Just couldn’t pass up after looking at price difference. Thanks again!!
That's exactly how I felt. I mean it saved approximately $2500 across two Verandah rooms or over 35% off. That's pretty significant! (I mean it's a whole nother room for me which means I could go again if there's another sale LOL!) ;-)
