GTY reservation questions

Hello. If I want a GTY reservation, can dreams unlimited book it? Or is there no savings? Can I cancel before the PIF date and get my deposit back? I don’t know if DH and I can get the time off of work yet but I will book it if I can get the deposit refunded if we can’t. Thank you in advance.

A GTY reservation just gives Disney the right to choose your cabin instead of you doing it yourself when you book. It may or may not offer any savings. Your TA can book it and it is refundable as long as you follow the cancellation rules.

Let's be clear here.

Once a certain percentage of rooms within a category is booked, the category goes GTY. You can still book a room in that category, but you cannot select a specific room number. Your reservation will show (for example ) GTY 9C in the place where your room number would be. There is no lower cost for GTY rooms, they are the same price as if you selected a specific room.

There are also last minute restricted fares (IGT, OGT, VGT) that may be offered on a cruise that isn't selling well. These generally show up after the paid in full date for any given cruise, and the cost, while typically lower than the current prevailing rates, it's still higher than the same category was sold for on opening day.

A travel agent (such as Dreams Unlimited) may offer perks for using them to book a cruise. These perks could be onboard credit, or photo packages, or, possibly, extra cost dining experience. And they would offer those perks regardless of what type booking you make.

If you cancel a GTY reservation prior to the paid in full date, you'll get all your monies back that you have paid up until that time.

Because *GT reservations are usually after the paid in full date, you must pay in full at time of booking, and there are no refunds.

And it sounds like you're looking at a *GT rate and NOT a GTY. If that is the case, that rate is non-refundable.

When is the cruise?

From the DCL website it appears the PIF date would be 120 days out:

Cruises of 10 Nights or More and Cruises Less Than 10 Nights Where Embark and Debark is Non-U.S. Port (Excluding Suites and Concierge Staterooms)
Days Prior to Vacation Commencement Date/ Fee Amount
119-56 days/ Deposit per Guest
55-30 days/ 50% of vacation price per Guest
29-15 days/ 75% of vacation price per Guest

It’s during Labor Day and that’s my holiday to wrk so doubtful unless a coworker will want to switch holidays with me and pray DH isn’t on call that week but since he’s the newbie he usually gets stuck with call during the holiday weeks.

One thing, if the *GT rates are showing today - they might not be there tomorrow. Or, even, in a couple of hours. Those rates are offered until the number of reservations matches up with the number of reservations DCL wants booked at that time.

So... why would a person ever choose to book GTY? Sounds like a terrible idea.

Not if it gets them on the ship. It's quite possible that you could get an upgrade. That is, say you book a 9C GTY. When DCL gets around to assigning rooms, if there are no 9C (oceanview forward or aft) rooms available, then you could be assigned to a 4A (verandah midship) at no extra cost.

Oh ok. I didn’t know about the upgrade part. Thank you for explaining that. Is it possible for the GT rate too?
