We're booked in 2 GTY Extended Balcony staterooms (Cat 05E) on the Fantasy this September. For GTY staterooms, do they actually book more staterooms than there are in that category? We realize that with GTY, you may not get the category that you booked, but we're really looking forward to the extended balcony.

No, they never overbook a category. They switch from specific-room bookings to GTY when a specific category is nearly full, to keep some flexibility in room assignments if they notice a problem, mainly one associated with lifeboat capacity, or have a special request, like if the party booked in a room requests a connecting room at a later date. They never allow a GTY and regular booking for the same category at the same time.

We really like to book 5E on the Fantasy and have had GTY reservations before. We always got 5E by the time we sailed and were told that one of the other factors was the handicapped rooms (5E) were sometimes needed and remained flexible until closer to sailing. Our GTY ended up as a Handicapped accessible room twice (really large rooms in the corners). If, by some reason the 5E is not available, they offer a category above for you to choose.
