Thinking about a Halloween cruise for October. The rate for a GTY with restrictions is significantly less than booking an actual cabin. As I am a teacher and my daughter is a high school student, exposure to COVID is still a concern. That being said, will getting insurance cover us should we need to cancel? Also, thoughts any thoughts on type of insurance we should get is appreciated.

I did confirm with my TA that if I test positive and can’t cruise that all cruises are covered to include *GT cruises. She said it was covered. But you should still check as things change. I believe that policy is 14 days and under before sailing. If you hear differently let me know. We booked the October 8 night.

Currently DCL's "Flexible Refund Policy" allows for any reservation to be cancelled within 14 days prior to embarkation due to Covid-related reasons. That includes *GT rates. However, this one "temporary" policy does not have a specified end date like the other 3 temp covid-era policies. So while I don't necessarily expect they'll drop it this fall, they will at some point.

I believe the insurance offered via DCL includes coverage for covid-related cancellation. But it will only cover the cruise and other parts of your trip if booked via DCL -- if you book airfare, pre- or post-cruise hotel, transfers, etc. separately those parts aren't covered. I recommend researching for a third-party vendor using one of the online travel insurance comparison websites. Be sure to read the fine print and ask specific questions before purchasing to be sure you understand the coverage.

I think as long as passengers need to test before getting on a cruise ship the flexible policy will stay in place. You may not need insurance for covid but it’s always a good idea to get it if you have an emergency at sea. We had an air evacuation on our second sea day on the fantasy 6/11 sailing by the coast guard.

Thank you all. I do have travel insurance as one of my union benefits and will call them to get more specifics. As long as the 14 day flex policy statys in place, we should be good.

I had the same question. So it sounds like, YES, insurance and the 14 day covid refund would apply to restricted guestrooms, right?

The insurance through DCL should cover, but confirm with the policy. The policy allowing for cancellation within 14 days does include restricted *GT rates.

I know for a fact that DCL's Covid refund policy applies to GT because I've had to use it before, when booked in a GT. I got a full refund due to being exposed to Covid within 2 weeks of sail date.
