Day 2

Today our aim was to go to Epcot. We are up and out and join the very long queue for the bus. We wait…and wait...and wait watching buses of all the other parks come and go. After half an hour we get out of the queue and join then line for MGM instead. Then a Magic Kingdom bus came and we leapt on that with the intention of getting the Monorail over the Epcot. On the first Saturday of each holiday we always have row about going to the Magic Kingdom. I think you’d need to be sectionable to go there on the busiest day of the week. The lines to get in are horrendous so we do indeed pop on the Monorail over to Epcot which is much better...and my favourite park.

A word about the buses (which as I’ve said before were terrible this year). There are now recorded announcements on them rather than letting the drivers speak. I can understand, to some extent, why they did this but some of the drivers were informative and witty and made the journey. The biggest change however is the introduction of recorded music. You know when you’re on the bus and everybody’s had a busy day and they’re chatty and noisy? Well now that noise competes with the music and it’s very wearing.

In Epcot Spaceship Earth is closed and it’s he first time we’ve ever see it without the wand: Dopey misses it I’m not bothered. Dopey spies the new Character Premiere area where you can have your pictures taken with Disney folk - this is something of an obsession of his. We have many pictures of us taken over many years all that changes are the t-shirts we wear. As there is a 45 minute wait we leave it and go over the Ellens Energy Adventure - a firm favourite. From this we hit Mouse Gear and for the first time ever come out with nothing!

We then start World Showcase. First, as we working clockwise, is Mexico and the new ride. What a waste of time that is. The old ride was at least so bad it was good. Do they really think that this is a good way to present their country? We then try on lots of hats and listen to a Marachi band who are wearing some very snug trousers - with varying success. Into Norway and the Stave Church is open so we spend a few moments in there before trying on more hats. I am a particularly fetching Brunnhilde. Then to China and a good long mooch in the shops choosing presents for people - and trying on hats. We have to wait to cross the bridge as they are moving the Illuminations barges into place. It’s a beautiful day so standing admiring the views across the lake is no hardship. We have our traditional picture on the bridge opposite Italy with Spaceship Earth behind us taken and then find the toy museum bit in Japan. Weaving in and out of the countries we make our way to Canada and see the new film there which is MUCH better though the song, as well as it’s sung, is hilarious. “Oh Canada, you cross 6 times zones, yes you do. Oh Canada, you’re so lovely who cold not love yoooooou, oh Canada”.

We then make our way over to Beaches and Cream for dinner…well, we’re on holiday. We are seated immediately and notice to our horror that there are three people sharing a table…and they’re eating a Kitchen Sink each! For those of you who haven’t experienced it this is an absolutely VAST dessert and I would suggest would be a struggle for 4 people. I have a milkshake (you MUST have one of these if you visit) and a turkey sandwich making the mistake of having a side of onion rings. In the UK you might get 4, I have about 12 hula-hoop sized ones - I managed 2.

We waddle out and walk over to the Boardwalk before getting a bus to DTD. I am a trained professional and when I hear a cry of distress I immediately leap up to see how I can help. It seems that the cry of pain was in fact the music on the bus: U2 and Mary J Blige (or it may have been her Irish cousin Mary O’Blige). We wander round DTD - to see if there’s anything vastly different from when we were here yesterday: there’s not. We get a bus back to the hotel to watch TV and sleep.

Dear diary. Today it was hot.

I'm reading and enjoying your reports, Grumpy. Please, add some of the photos you took/had taken. Looking forward to the additional comments from Dopey that you mentioned might be coming along.

I gree with you regarding the bus drivers....they were noticibly quieter on our last trip :guilty:

A kitchen sink EACH?! My flabber is gasted. Did you happen to notice whether they finished them? A great day. I kinda liked the music on the buses (when I could hear it) but after the umpteenth time with the same songs over and over again the novelty certainly wore off.

Laur's princess:

loving it Ron, just can't wait til you get to NYC :lmao:

It is a shame that the bus drivers don't have their chat with the guests

We wait…and wait...and wait watching buses of all the other parks come and go.

Who could believe it, the buses being a pain in the neck - what do I always say (other than "Yes, I'd love a cold beer!") - ban buses, hateful hateful things, and then there would be more space for us car drivers.

Not sure I agree with you assessment that there is nothing else at DTD - how about the Sosa Cigar Bar? A retreat for the discerning gentleman, in the melee that is DTD.:thumbsup2

Ah Matt...it can't be for the discerning gentleman...I've seen pictures of you in it!

I did notice Laurs - they did finish them. I wasn't surprised as they were loud and obnoxious. I behaved as any Englishman would. I went up to them, grabbed them by the ears then brought my knee up sharply.

This is why I probably would never use the bus system, too much waiting around.
