Well, it seems like our holiday was months and months ago…oh yes it was! I started my trip reports but, well I guess life took over. I send my continued admiration to those of you who write extensive, interesting, detailed reports. I thought that rather than beat myself up over not writing anything, and rather than beat myself up over trying to write everything I’d just do an edited highlights of the rest of the holiday.

Here follows the highlights, and lowlights, of a long-winded man:

We had some lovely meals on this holiday. We had booked the Dining Plan through Virgin and made the most of it! We ate far more than we usually do. We also had a couple of problems. Last year we went to Ohana for breakfast and really enjoyed it. We booked again (months in advance) for 930 on our first Sunday. Arrived at 910 and booked in. “We’ve run out of pagers” they said, but promised to call us. At 1010 I go up and ask what is happening. “We’re very busy, you’ll be seated as soon as possible. I’m sorry we’ve missed you off”. At 1040 I go up again and ask to see the manager - now. At 1100 we are seated and the manager arrives. By this time Dopey is absolutely furious. The manager apologises and I ask why it’s taken her 20 minutes to come to see me. “We’ve had a few problems” she says. She offers us Fastpasses for the MK for that day. Absolutely no point we say. He offers to comp us the meal. We’re on the Dining Plan and are having trouble using up all the credits anyway, so no point. Dopey is so angry that there is no point staying so we leave - having wasted a good couple of hours. Needless to say by the time we sat down the place was about a quarter full.

The following day we had breakfast at Cape May booked for 1000. We leave the All-Stars at 830. Using the bus service we arrive at the Beach Club at 1000! (for those of you who don’t know how far it is from one resort to the next I estimate you could drive it in about 6 minutes). The main hold up here was we got a bus at DTD to the Beach Club - we were the only passengers and the driver asked us where we wanted to go. He took 15 minutes to get from the Marketplace to Pleasure Island! He then stopped and waited at every stop - where nobody got on - and made announcements using the tannoy system…for the two of us. When we eventually arrived we had a lovely meal and would recommend this, but would bus to Epcot in future and walk - it’d take far less time.

End of rant!

We witnessed a bona fida miracle whilst we were away. Oh you can mock but we saw it. I had noted from our plans that we were due to have breakfast at Cape May and then dinner at Beaches and Cream (hey, we’re on holiday). Wandering through Epcot I realised late on in the day why we’d made these plans and then it dawned on me...Eat to the Beat…with David Cassidy! We’ll we hot footed it over and got ourselves seats (that wasn’t the miracle). Unfortunately we were seated next to a group of young men who were clearly not of the marrying kind. You might think this ideal as we are of the same breed. However they were of the snotty variety and sneered away at us. Having an attitude we me is NEVER a good idea. Hhhhhmmmm sunglasses in the dark? Isn’t than un peu pretentious, dear? Having a picture of yourself on your phone dressed as the Wicked Queen - are we trying to be ironic? Anyway the miracle: David came on and beamed and sang and sweated. There was a group of middle-aged women in the front row who were clearly groupies. In front of us was a largish lady riding a disability scooter. David worked his magic, she started off swaying and clapping and then leapt from her chair and ran to the front of the auditorium. I half expected him to put his hand on her forehead and shout “heal”. She then moved halfway back, knelt and took photos. I was impressed. David was good and funny and I expected him to be capable of putting on a good show. I didn’t expect a miracle!

We went up to New York for Dopeys birthday at the end of our first week and had a supertastic time. Perhaps the best bit was Dopey insulting a major rock star. We were in Virgin Megastore in Times Square and, as usual, Dopey was looking for anything Madonna related. He saw a member of staff - black t-shirt, jeans, standard Virgin uniform - carrying a large basket and placing something on a shelf. “Excuse me” he spake, “do you have any Madonna calendars”? “I’m sorry, I don’t work here” said the man who was just wearing a black t-shirt and jeans - apparently you can do - even if you don’t work for Virgin. The Dopey came towards me as red as can be. “Is that who I think it is” he asked. Yup it was…Jon Bon Jovi! After a good dealing of squirming Dopey wnet and asked if he could have his photograph taken with him. “Not right now” says Jon. We beat a hurried exit. Dopey is very disappointed. I point out that the guy is just out shopping and might not want to draw attention to himself. I also point out that Dopey had insulted the man by insinuating that he was a shop assistant. Ah well, we got a good story from it - and Dopey was THE “Spotted” of the week in Heat Magazine! Jon has had a very dodgy eye-lift.

Anyway New York was fantastic. I blame ArielJasmine for much of our to and fro-ing as her report excited Dopey so much he had to do EVERYTHING she had! We spent an age looking for the Will and Grace building, for example. Her last trip report (to WDW) now means that he wants to go backstage at Seaworld to touch a penguin and 101 other ‘essentials’! (We really enjoy your reports Laur’s...but maybe you could do less next time...just think of my sanity!).

We went to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party twice: once in costume - where we sweated like no-ones business - and once without. Dopey picked up the pins he wanted and I got lots and lots of sweets!

At the start of the holiday we decided that we would give WDW a rest for a while. By the time we’d finished Dopey had said that he wants to go again this year. We are not booking a package this time and at the moment our plans are:
December 13-16th New York. Fly with Virgin. Probably staying at Hotel Metro (ArielJasmines recommendation!)
Dec 16th fly to Orlando with Continental.
Dec 16-30th stay at Music Resort Dining Plan (MUCH cheaper that booking this with Virgin - about £20 per day per person cheaper). Yes we aim to be away for Christmas for the first time ever. We are reading Saratogagirls reports with great interest. What should we do on the day itself? Oh, so much planning to do!

I have, no doubt, missed 999 special things that happened (did we enter a breakdancing compettion with the Pope? My notes stopped after a couple of days so we may have done). Maybe Dopey will add to this.

Thanks for the vacation round up. Getting a trip report written from beginning to end is tricky and I appreciate the fact that you managed to complete the task even if not quite in the manner you intended. Dopey's point of view would, as usual, be welcome. And about his brush with greatness--Jon Bon Jovi!!!! Wow! It's got me wondering though, wouldn't it be easier for us to maintain the proper level of awe, if we never were able to get close enough to be able to evaluate the quality of celebrities' nip/tucks?
Thanks again for sharing your trip.

Thankyou Grumpy for taking the time to finish your reports, i know how hard it is to keep up the inclination(sp) when you are home, i should know as i'm currently still writing day 12 of 17 from our trip in May 2007, i have promised myself i won't post any of it till i've finished it, hopefully i will by the time we go this year, i would love to hear more about New York as hopefully dh and i will get there on our own in the next few years when we are restricted to school holidays with ds!

Does that mean by this time, Dopey was Grumpy? Does that then make you Dopey? Ooohh, now I am getting a little confused:confused3

Sadly we have had the same instance with buses at DTD and PI in August, and we also had a wait for a driver change. That having been said, we did use transportation in January a couple of times (out of need ofcourse!) and it worked out fine.

Unfortunately we were seated next to a group of young men who were clearly not of the marrying kind.
How did you tell? Is it an inbuilt radar, or was it the fact they were at a David Cassidy "gig" screaming like 15 yr old girls?:confused3

Sounds like a faberoo trip all in all Grump and thanks for sharing it. Shame no photos though:rolleyes1

Forgive me, Grumpy. I don't mean to hijack your TR thread, but I can't let this opportunity go by.

Matt, Please, clarify because I'm sure I didn't read that right: You used Disney transportation and it worked out fine?! If I did read that right, I've got to mark this day on my Mickey & Friends calendar!!

I new somebody would have something to say about it! In my defence we were without car, and it seemed the best way to get to the next bar!

:lmao: Sorry, guys! I am thinking that perhaps you should not read the report I am intending on writing about our trip to LA and Vegas! I really hope you found the Will & Grace building, I thought it was cool, but I'm not sure I could have found it again as we just stumbled across it.

I am totally impressed by Dopey bumping into Jon Bon Jovi (and I have done that in Virgin before but it's never been a famous person I have confused with an employee!) and totally disgusted by your lack of service at Ohana.

Thanks for rounding up your trip, you never fail to make me :)
