Ridiculous. Even if it's just on The Strip for now, you know it will spread.

This is already it spreading from a few places on the strip to even service bars..... A few places have had Concession fees and the like for a bit now like Cabo Wabo, Beer Park Paris, and the like.
GRRRRRRRRRR.

Just raise the price of the drinks . That's annoying but not maddening. We are discussing 2020 vacation plans and this may take Vegas out of the mix. We aren't gamblers & have plenty of casinos nearby but enjoyed going to Vegas for the shows, restaurants and just taking in the atmosphere. Plus we now have legal sports betting in my State and the two closest adjoining States so that reason to visit Vegas is over.

Vegas continues to act like they are the only place that has casinos. When attendance starts dropping, maybe they will wake-up and realize $20+/day parking fees and $40/day/room 'resort fees' along with these new drink fees are driving people away. There are casinos all over the US and no longer is Vegas or Atlantic City the only game in town.

Yeah but who really wants to go to Tunica or some other place like that?

We enjoy those other places. If you live in the Eastern or Central part of the US, it takes a 3-5 hr plane ride to Vegas along with all of the current hassles associated with flying. There are a LOT of casinos within a 1-2 hr drive of where many people live. Vegas is no longer the only place to go gambling.

No kidding, @_19disnA! There's a new casino maybe 25 minutes from my home - about the same amount of time it would take just to get to Logan! Sure, it's expensive - but cheaper than the Las Vegas trip!

Vegas has quite a bit more than gambling. Other destinations don't. On the Las Vegas strip, the majority of revenue does not come from gambling any more. That isn't true of other gambling places including Downtown Las Vegas. So yeah if all you want to do is gamble and you don't care about atmosphere or much else, one of those places may be fine. But increasingly people want more than just gambling. And the Vegas strip is providing it. Tunica, not so much. Metropolis, other places, not so much.

Guess it depends on what someone is interested in. Vegas has lots of REALLY expensive shows but many other casinos offer entertainment as well. We visited downtown Vegas last year when we were there and would NEVER go back. It is in a really sketchy area and never felt safe there. The tiny casinos had no appeal to us. I can't speak to what everyone else does, but can only comment on our experience.

On one of our trips we took the bus up the Strip to Downtown . Walked around and got the bus back to The Strip in under an hour.
Never went back to Downtown on our following trips. Felt Downtown was depressing . The Strip ( Wynn to Mandalay Bay) is a whole other experience.

To me, downtown vegas is like a lot of other gambling places. There isn't much else to do besides gambling and bars to be honest. The strip is where a lot of the non gambling things to do are. And unfortunately, that's where you'll also get fees to the death. Of course everyone has to go see Freemont St. once. But once you've seen it, you've seen it. If downtown is all Vegas had, I'd never go there.

My local casino is the Encore Boston Harbor (not particularly close to the harbor, or even within view of he ocean), so, as far as I know, great atmosphere.

While l I'm sure the Encore Boston Harbor is fine on the inside. But when walking around outside, the area it is in leaves a lot to be desired.

Vegas is accustom to hefty profits from gambling. This model has been failing slow but surely for a decade now. Now when your operation is as large as they are in Vegas ( MGM comes to mind ), you have little choice but to over charge on everything just to stay afloat. Step 2 is to downsize the operation. Or in this case, sell a third of the resort as condos. Without folks willing to throw money away, the resorts have to earn it now and those big fancy resorts cost big money to operate.

Raise the room rates. Be up front with the actual cost. Don't advertise/charge $19, then add a $40 "resort fee."

Vegas has become way too expensive. Too many stupid fees. And the food is crazy expensive, like more expensive than a Disney vacation kind of expensive. I might as well just go to a Disney park instead and I'll end up spending less.
