I went home for lunch today. Everything was going great. The weather is sunny and above 40 degrees. My scrambled eggs were delicious. My fireplace mantel was being finished by the contractor.

Then...

I went into my basement to get an Atkins popsicle. I opened the door to my big freezer and the popsicles I bought for the kids the other night were liquid.

ACH!

1-1/2 shelves were thaw, plus everything on the door. The ham I had on the top shelf, although not completely thaw, was moved to the refrigerator, only because it wasn't completely thawed.

I moved anything salvageable to my two other freezers (part of refrigerators.) Thankfully, I have them to use.

So, as we figure now, it was either the kids who didn't shut the door properly, or the freezer is really broken. I hope that it was just the kids since we're replacing the hot water heater this week, too.

Ahh, the joys of being married 10 years... the appliances you buy early want to quit all at the same time.

Vent over...:(

RUDisney -- I truly, truly feel for you! My parents had fire ants get in the motor of their freezer last year and it died - lost 1/2 a beef! :faint: If only it were the dead of winter and really cold out, you could have moved everything to your front yard! :p

Here's hoping it was the kids!

I totally hear you about that! So annoying when several things start to go at once!

I hear you on that one. My freezer died 5 days before we went to Las Vegas. We went out to get a new one but most took 7 days to deliver! We managed to get one as we were able to take the freezer home ourselves rather than waiting for a delivery.

We don't have luck with our refrigerators, and we have three of them now. Glad for back-ups also.

I'm so sorry. Our freezer died a few months ago, and I also had a bad moment when I went to get ice cream out of the freezer and it was more like soup. Is there frost build-up in your freezer? I had frost in mine, and it turned out it was because the heater had gone out and wasn't defrosting like it was supposed to. Ice built up over the place where cold air comes out, so all my stuff melted. It ruined all the stuff in the connected refrigerator, too, because apparently the cold air in the fridge is imported from the freezer.

Here's some positive freezer pixie dust. :D ~*~*~*~*~

Came home from WDW in January. Next morning before we left for work, my husband says "What's this on the floor?"

The freezer had defrosted. Apparently we blew a fuse about a night or two before we got home and it just happened to be the circuit that the freezer was on (also the home alarm system). Now this is a 22 yr old freezer, so I was sure that it had died.

Threw everything away before we left for work. Mopped up most of the water and goo off the floor with towels.

Checked the fuse box, found the one we needed to replace and replaced it. Freezer started right up.

Check your breaker box or fuse box. Did the freezer get wet from the water heater leak?? Maybe you tripped a breaker.

Oh its just ducky when the freezer defrosts on its own!! We've got a stand up one and one of the kids unplugged it and it went un noticed, YEHA it was filled with water! I spent I dont know how long cupping it empty!! Your never alone!

Well, turns out we have bad children and not a bad freezer. They didn't close the door properly when they took out a popsicle and so the warm air from the basement melted our food. They now understand the importance of closing the door properly.

So, on the bright side, I don't need a new freezer AND the ham that was almost thawed was the best one that I've ever tasted. It was from the Kansas City Meat Company. We got it for Christmas. I highly recommend them.

Whew! That's a relief. Glad the freezer wasn't broken after all.
