Growing old gracefully -- will you?

Gracefully? heck no, I'm going down fighting!! In 2 weeks I will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of my 21st birthday and I will be celebrating it at WDW!! I color my hair, I slather on the face cream, use makeup sparingly, occasionally drink a beer, love going to concerts, drive a little red sports car named Rosie, and would never be caught wearing Mom Jeans!!! Rock and Roll is my music of choice and I just got my first tattoo!! I exercise and eat right and I love my life!!!! My DDs still think I am semi-cool and don't mind hanging out with Mom, and my DH just tries to keep up!!! My siggie says it all!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

To me, growing old graceful is more about taking care of yourself and being dignified than about plastic surgury and hiding your real age.

However, I'm only 24 and am already finding grey hairs (which I can't help but pluck). My mom was dying her hair by the time she was in her 30s, and I suspect I'm going to end up doing the same thing. My dad, on the other hand, is only beginning to salt and pepper at 57.

have you seen Robert Redford recently? :scared1: :scared1: That qoute must have been years ago,he has'nt lived up to it. :sad2:

That sounds like my DH and his dad! DH's dad is in his 50s and his hair is just starting to get that faded look. DH doesn't have the least sign of it, and he'll be 35 this year. I'm already a few years older than him and I don't want to look more.

I believe I am growing old gracefully (I'll be 44 next week.) I will continue to exercise and try to eat right, but that's about it. (see tag) I don't color hair or nails, don't even own any makeup - what people see is what I really look like! Because I don't spend time on my face and hair, I do actually look quite a bit younger than I am.

Too late for me. I'm already old and I've never done anything gracefully ;) ...... Seriously, any extra money goes into the WDW fund. I'd rather be wrinkled and tubby but laying down in a Poly hammock than be young looking and mouseless!

I'm 51 and I wouldn't want to be 25 again for all the money in the world. Like Robin's dad says, "It sure beats the alternative". DW and I take better care of ourselves than our parents did so I think we are physically in better shape than our parents were at our age. But no dyes or artificial ingredients here.

I am 42 (male). My hair is greying at the sides, so that now I kind of have the same look as Paulie on the Sopranos. :teeth: I have always had the attitide that if my hair turned white or turned loose I would just take it as it comes. I still have no desire to color it. Plastic surgery? Never in a million years... and never would I make DW feel like she should even consider it either.

Related topic: I once heard an interview with Robert Redford. He said he would not have plastic surgery, etc because it just wasn't who he was or what he was about. :thumbsup2 to Bob.
Except he had a facelift a couple of years ago and now doesn't look like the same person. Which is a shame, because he was such a handsome man. :sad2:

As far as growing old gracefully...I used to color my hair, but stopped a few years ago. I have some gray, but figured I have earned it. I have tried to get into better shape these past couple of years. I am walking and exercising more. My DH & I completed the WDW 1/2 Marathon in January (my 1st, his 2nd). I don't wear make-up, but really never did on a regular basis, even as a teenager and younger woman. I put on a little when I get dressed up, but not a lot day-to-day. Plastic surgery...I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't do any elective surgery...too risky. I think aging is all attitude. If you have a good attitude and good self-esteem, it's OK. I'm not 2 anymore, and don't want to pretend I am.

I think growing old gracefully means not trying to look like a 20 year old.
I will be 44 this year. I notice more lines in my face, but have been moisturizing, etc, for a while.
I am a redhead and my gray hair really stands out. I started coloring my hair last year. I like it much better with the gray gone. I look all washed out with gray hair.

I refuse to wear anything too young for me, but I love to do fun, young stuff.
I love WDW, love to take my kids places. I think that is what keeps me young, my DD is 20 and my boys will soon be 12 and 9.

I can't grow old yet, I have kids to raise!!

Trying to look younger than you are ,sometimes makes you look older.I go to WDW every year and that makes me feel young :thumbsup2 . Keep your mind active and watch your weight and you will always be" looking good"

Thanks! I may be old but I can still appreciate good old fashioned politically incorrect cartoons. Long live Looney Tunes (including me)! :tilt:

I'm 45. I've been coloring my hair for 30 years--I began to go gray in high school. It's more or less it's natural color. I color it because I like the way it looks, and so far I don't have enough wrinkles on my face to need to worry about softening them.

I take good care of my skin, watch my weight, wear clothing that's chic but not so trendy that I look ridiculous. (I have a friend my age who dresses way too young and looks tawdry and silly because of it, no way I'm going to go down that path.)

I was paid a major compliment about a month ago by some people who thought I was ten years younger than I am. :thumbsup2

My personal definition of growing old gracefully, is no surgery, just trying your best to keep up your looks to the best of your ability. I am going to turn 36 this September, and while I don't mind getting older too much, I intend to do everything within my power to look the best I can. :thumbsup2

My mother grew old very graciously and it had more to do with her behavior than coloring her hair or having a facelift. She always acted like a lady. She had a great love of life.

I color my hair but I have not had a face lift as of yet. Personally I don't see anything wrong with it but I am scared to go under the knife. My husband is 7 years younger than I and he has a lot of gray in his hair that I find very handsome.

Sometimes I look in the mirror by mistake and wonder, who is that women staring back at me. I don't feel my age and hope I never do.

I think growing old gracefully means you act the age you really are, but everybody still thinks you're cool. :)

When you look at the horrible things that have been done to celebrities in the name of staying young and beautiful -- let's just say it makes wrinkles look good. YIKES!!

I think growing old gracefully means doing what you can to keep your body & mind healthy. Getting out all the word games & cross word puzzels to keep the grey matter stimulated; and continuing to learn new things. Of course going to Disney helps keep the child inside alive too!

I took up yoga at age 48 when my mom moved to join us here in Kansas City. She also started around that age. It has made a huge difference in how I feel. When I started I was amazed how much energy and stamina it took. Who knew you could break a sweat standing still! But the stretching and breathing have loosened up my joints and now I have built more stength than I could have ever imagined!

Now Mom is 76 (she looks at least 10 years younger) and still doing yoga, walks 3 miles 3 times a week, & weighs what she did in high school. No face lifts or dye, but her hair is that beautiful white, so why would she. Pretty good example I think. Hope I do as well as she has!
