Hi All, I was hoping that someone here could help me plan a lil mini weekend get away. At the end of April, I'm taking DH to Grove City, PA for a his bday. I was hoping someone my wonderful co-disers would have a good idea of where to stay and whats good for shopping other than the outlet malls. Thanks in anticipation of your help, I truly need it :)..

There are a few hotels in town but they get booked up really fast on weekends.

We sometimes stay in Cranberry...it is between Grove City and Pittsburgh and last time we went to Grove City we actually stayed in Pittsburgh. We are coming down From Canada so we spent the day shopping and then continued on to Pittsburgh where we went to a hockey game and a football game the following day and then on the way back home we shopped some more!!

There are a few hotels across from the outlets. The Comfort Suites is not as nice as it used to be, I no longer stay there. I do like the Hampton Inn there.
There is a Holiday Inn Express as well, but I have not stayed there.

We shop in Grove City, PA a few times a year but have never stayed there as the hotels are pretty expensive on the weekends. Also we haven't found a lot to do other than shopping. There is an Amish community not far away to the west with some quaint shops, but I can't remember the name of it.

We usually stay in Erie, PA when we go to Grove City. There is lots to do there and the hotels are cheap. They even have a casino if you are in to that. We love going to Presque Isle State Park, too.

Whatever you do, be prepared with a plan of attack when you go to the outlets in Grove City. It is huge and there are many buses that bring in shoppers from all over on the weekends. It is best to get there when the stores open, get a good centralized parking space and keep it. You will be tired at the end of the day, for sure!

Not much to do in Grove City. Seriously its a farm community with some outlet stores built there.

I would look into driving into Pittsburgh ( 1 1/2 hours) or to Erie if you wanted something to do other than shopping.

I vote Erie -- we're not that far from you, and only about an hour north of Grove City. Erie is a great town, everything from arts (www.erieevents.com) to a great indoor waterpark (www.splashlagoon.com), baseball will be in full swing by then (Erie SeaWolves), the casino (www.presqueisledowns.com) and of course Lake Erie (Presque Isle State Park) & The Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC).
How could I forget shopping! www.millcreekmall.net among many other quaint stores (googlemaps to: Village West), there are also many, many wineries as well (www.lakeeriewine.com)
Have a wonderful weekend!

I live in Erie and there are a ton of hotels here along I-90 which is on the way to Grove City. If you were to stay in Erie, I would recommend the Peach St. exit. Tons of hotels like Hampton, Courtyard, Residence Inn. Also many places to eat there also. We also have a mall to shop at, but I usually prefer to shop at the outlets. If you need anymore info, let me know.

There isn't much to do in Grove City. The outlets are nice. Wendall August Forge is great to visit, but it burned recently although they should have a new showroom open soon. Grove City is a great place for a relaxing weekend.

Volant is nearby, with a quaint Amish shopping area. We stay there for a long weekend with my extended family once in awhile. Most of the hotels across from the outlets are nice. Some have an indoor pool and breakfast included. I live about a half hour away.

There is a wonderful bed and breakfast inn real close to the outlets in Grove City its actually in Slippery Rock, PA ~ The Applebutter Inn. My dh and I stay there once a year~ its a nice romantic getaway. A good restaurant we always eat at is call Rachels Roadhouse Grill. You can also go to Volant,PA its a quaint street with little stores mostly crafts. I would go and have a wonderful time.

One word of advice, DON'T go to Eat n Park there! Horrible service and disgusting food(and this was for a party of 9...all 9 of us had issues with our food)! We complained, they sent us a free gift card, but that's not enough to make me ever want to go back to that Eat n Park!

The outlets are really nice there though.
And the penny candy store isn't too far...maybe 30 miles.

We have always eaten our lunch at the Eat n Park at Grove City and have never had any problems at all. Fast, efficient and good.

Don't forget in Erie there is a cheap movie theater right behind MillCreek Mall. They don't show 1st run movies, but we alway find something we missed when a movie first came out. It is a Cinemark. not to be confused with the Cinemark over by Lowe's on the other side of Peach Street. That is not the cheap one. :cool2:
