Group Booking

We have a very large family group going (as you all must know from my posts) - 9 staterooms (19 adults and 6 kids ages 11 - 8 months)

We were able to choose a one of the following:
1. 1 hour cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres
2. Steamer trunk filled with snacks
3. Bottle of wine delivered to your room

We chose #1. My question is what day and time do they have this? Where would it be held?

We are on the 4 night Wonder.

If anyone has any info on this it would be much appreciated!!

Hi Lisa! You would need to talk to your contact at DCL or your TA regarding the date and time of the reception. Keep in mind that this could be a SHARED reception with other groups on your cruise as well.

Hi There!

We are sailing 7/13 on the Disney Magic. We have 12 cabins, 27 people. We also chose the cocktail party. You might want to know that the cocktail hour is actually 45 minutes.

We are on the 7 night Eastern Caribbean sailing, so of course I can't say your info is the same. We were advised our "shared party" (all groups who chose this option go to the same party) would be held from 5:15-6PM the day of sailing.

It is the travel agent (if you used one) who confirms the arrangments for the party, so maybe yours could get more info for you!

Gee.....I booked 7 staterooms for our group (family) of 20: 14 adults, 4 teens & 2 children, through Dreams Unlimited and didn't recieve any special offer like the one the original poster mentioned. I wonder if I would if I transferred all my reservations to DCL.

Carol, to qualify as a group booking you would need to have a minimum of EIGHT staterooms booked. If you add a stateroom Dreams would certainly be able to convert you to group status and have the amenity added to your reservation.

You can have your TA contact DCL regarding your group amenity any time up until your final payment is due.

Hi Carol RN,

My TA was not able to confirm our group party with DCL until everyone's final payment was received. The choices were all explained to him, but they wouldn't confirm until we had all paid up.

At that time, they also accepted our seating arrangements for dinner. He was faxed diagrams that indicated tables of 4, 6, and 8. He asked about larger tables so we could maybe split into 3 9's but was told we could not do that. I have seen postings on this site where people say they have sat at tables for 14, so I don't know if there are just a limited number of large tables. Anyway, we chose one table for5, 2 7's and 1 for 8.

Oops, forgot to answer one of your other questions. We were told our party would be at the Rockin' D bar on Deck 3!

with a group of 8 cabins we not only got the the choices, but one person went free! that is pretty standard in the cruise business. if you book 8 cabins, you pay 15 people (as the first and second in the cabins) and the 16th only has to pay for taxes and fees.

Lucky you. How did you book your trip? As I am an avid cruiser, I of course inquired about the 16th person free. My travel agent was told (and so was I when I called to verify) by DCL that Disney did not have any such offer. We were told the only group discount is a $50 per cabin off the quoted rate. Even with all of our cabins added up, that would not make 1 person free.

I even asked for a supervisor in Group Sales who gave me the same story.

Glad you were able to work it into your trip, would have been nice if we could have also, but.......

WOW!! One person FREE!! That is incredible!!

I am the "group coordinator" for this large family group and I am the one person that brings all requests to our TA and confirms and reconfirms everything. I would love it if I was able to go fo FREE!!

I booked through an agency. If you want to private message me, I will be happy to tell you who. They were great to deal with. Disney calls it a tour conductor credit.

I also had a group of 9 cabins, booked with our travel agent. We got the above amenities on all the cabins, plus the cabin my wife and I were in We only paid the base rate for one but we did have to pay the port charges and tax for both of us. They base the 16th person as free for the most cabins booked in a particular category. We had 3 inside category 11's, 4 category 6's and two category 4's. Since we were in one of the category 6 cabins and that was the category the most cabins were booked in including myself, I was free. Call DCL and pretend you are asking about a future cruise where there will be 8 cabins and 16 people and say is it true that I could go free in my cabin? The term to use is TOUR CONDUCTOR [that is the person that goes free] We have also done this on other cruise lines, so it isn't just Disney that does this. Anyone can do a group cruise it does not have to be with a travel agent, but if you do have one doing your cruise, you need to contact them and tell them what DCL said. Be careful as some travel agents don't tell you this so the cruise line will pay that amount as extra commission to the travel agent, rather than deducting that amount from YOUR final payment. There is a lot of dishonesty about this going on. So verify with DCL yourself so that you are prepared to challenge your travel agent.

One thing to be aware of, is if you are in a category 6 and the majority of the cabins are in a lesser category then you will only get the lower category base rate deducted.
