Group aggravation - need to vent

We are traveling with a large family group. Most of us booked a cat. 5 and 2 parties booked a cat. 11. We are all doing the land / sea package.

Here is my aggravation - the families that were booked in the cat. 11 were booked at the CBR and were UPGRADED to the WL. One family is very excited about the upgrade as they never have been to WDW and the others really don't like that resort so are not too thrilled with their upgrade. Now these same people are looking for an upgrade on the ship because it is their 'honeymoon' if you know what I mean.

Now my thoughts are that upgrades are far and few between, but it would be nice if someone else in the group got an upgrade whether it be on land or sea.

What I would be aggravated about is the rest of us paid (big bucks) for out deluxe resort stay and our cat. 5 stateroom on the ship and they may get the same thing for the price they paid because these are all FREE upgrades.

If they have to end up paying for their upgrade on the ship then they are still making out in the deal and paying significantly less then the rest of us.

I am sorry, I just had to vent. For the amount of times the rest of us have been to WDW, NO ONE I have known has gotten an upgrade. We usually book what we want and can afford, but an upgrade has never come our way FREE of charge.

If you get an upgrade be happy about it and enjoy.

How long ago did you make your ressies? Sometime in August WDW announced that CBR would be completely shut down for renovation (of the restaurant facilities) from the beginning of September through mid December (approximate dates from memory). So EVERYONE who had made ressies at CBR for that time period has been moved to other resorts. Your friends just got "lucky" and will most likely NOT get upgraded on the ship.

chill - have a great trip

Instead of being "aggravated" because you possibly feel "cheated" at paying "big bucks", why not be happy for the families that will now be getting a better vacation than they could have possibly afforded?

I wonder if they upgraded the two families who were at Cat. 11/moderate resort... to the WL to keep your group intact. They probably figured the group would like all being at the same resort, so you didn't have to work out different bus schedules at the resorts or meet up and waste time in travel and waiting for group members to all be in the same place. But on the ship it is different because you all are just an elevator away... not miles away at different resorts. Sounds to me that DCL was trying to do you a favor and make the land portion of the group/family trip more convinent and enjoyable. It's too bad not all the members of your party are thankful for the upgrade :(

Lisa, the only reason the other family members got upgraded to the Wilderness Lodge is because the Caribbean Beach Resort is CLOSED right now because they are renovating the food service areas!

They most likely will NOT get upgraded on the ship.

When we spent 9 nights at the Wilderness Lodge last Oct we actually paid less for the courtyard view room than we would have paid originally for the Caribbean Beach Resort. I just had to work with the discounts.

I am very happy for the ones that got the upgrade - afterall, they are family members and they got pixie dust being that this is their first time for one family and the couple the husband hasn't been there since it was just MK. Anyway, what the aggravating thing is not being happy about the upgrade on land and "expecting" to get one on the ship. They are inquiring about paying for the upgrade at the port - but still it will not be nearly as expensive as what we paid - and they are getting the same thing as the rest of us.

We had this booked since June, 2001 so at the time we did not know the CBR was going to be closed - an upgrade is understandable. Where is everyone else who is staying at the CBR on a land/sea package being moved to? Is it a lateral move or an upgrade?

Thanks everyone for shining light on the other side of this. I am very happy for everyone that does get an upgrade - just be thankful for it is all I am trying to say.

RDisneylovers,

Hmmm.. I would guess the equivilent to CBR would be Port Orleans... I doubt everyone is getting an upgrade, maybe the option to upgrade? A lot probably has to do with space available too...Port Orleans is a popular resort. And maybe they moved them to WL since the rest of your group was there.

For the land/sea packages DCL would generally offer the Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter, but they are able to upgrade those who were displaced by the CBR closure if asked (and depending upon space available). Since the rest of your group is at the Wilderness Lodge it does make sense that they would end up there.

This kind of land upgrade does NOT happen with DCL unless there is something going on with the resort, as is the case here.

I hope you enjoy your cruise! :)

If it makes you feel any better, I inquired at the port on 10/5 about paying for an upgrade from category 6 to 4 or 3. The price I was quoted for the difference was exactly the same as the price had I booked those categories originally. No deals there! Diana
