Groundhog Day at Walt Disney World - New 5/2 - pg. 20 - 3 Updates/new PTR link

When we arrived at DHS we could tell it was busy right away – ESPN weekend was in full swing. We stopped for a couple PP pictures first:

We headed to the area behind RnRC where they were having the interactive sports games & it was mobbed! We saw an activity the kids would enjoy so we backtracked to the table with the release forms. We had to fill them out to get bracelets, which were required to participate. I’ll let the pictures tell the story of what we did:

I didn’t get a picture, but on our way out of that area Tim saw Bernie Williams playing a fishing game.

Up next was a ride on everyone’s favorite list, RnRC! We made our way through the pre-show area then when we were in line for our limo we saw a new line that we hadn’t seen before on the far end of the waiting area. It seemed as though famous people were coming in a back door and had their own special line. It looked like they were putting 2 or 4 “famous” people in each limo. We saw Karl Malone getting on the limo before us!

After RnRC – not sure if we went once or twice – Tim took Zach to the animation class. I had done it with him on the last two trip so this was a first for Tim. They drew Minnie! I guess Zach traded a few pins too. Alex & I must have ridden RnRC another time or two while they were at the class. We headed over to find them & met up in gallery/gift shop area. Tim bought them a couple more pins! I’d love to linger in there sometime.

I’m really impressed with Tim’s Minnie. Zach thinks his looks angry!

Next we headed to TSM. Again when we got to the front of the line, we saw a “famous people” line that was loading from the opposite side of the cars. We were next in line to get into our car & were told to wait for the next one. Our ride was stolen by someone named Stink! I thought Tim was calling him Steak. I guess he’s an announcer/sportscaster, maybe a retired player?? Once we got our cart we had another fun ride.

Zach had the best score! Alex gets so mad about it!!

After TSM it was time to make our way across the park for another first… dinner at Mama Melrose’s!

The restaurant was very cute & the meal started out great. We had a great waiter who brought us great bread & had a special salad made up for me (a double of the plain jane kid’s salad). I was drinking a lovely white wine spritzer, Zach & Tim shared some calamari & all was well. But we didn’t love our entrees. Zach had a flatbread that he liked OK. Alex had a piece of chicken but he didn’t like it. It was basically a piece of chicken parmesan without the pasta & sauce. He didn’t like the breading. Go figure! Tim & I both got chicken parmesan and thought it was just OK. Our waiter was great so we were sure to leave him a nice tip.

After dinner we checked out the muppets shop.

I think this is when I found the Kermit baseball cap for Zach. I’d seen it in the fall with Laura & figured I’d see it later but never did. But today I was in luck!

Oh! I totally forgot to write about the “Angry Eyes” shirt! I saw this shirt for Tim in November & wanted to buy it for him but the little gift shop by TSM had closed by the time we came out of TSM! So again, I tried to buy it in January with the Spectrum Moms. And AGAIN, the shop closed while we were in TSM! Ugghh!! On our first DHS day I grabbed the shirt first thing when we arrived.

After some shopping we owed the boys one more ride on RnRC:

I think Alex was keeping track and this might have been ride number 9 for the trip. He really wanted to hit 10 but we wanted to leave. We had our last full day ahead of us, which included a late night so we wanted to get the kids to bed early.

Up next: Our last full day

Oh man! That does look mobbed. I'm not sure I'd want to be there that day. Yikes! But it looks like you did have lots of fun. Bummer about the meal only being just okay. That's sort of a letdown after doing so much planning and looking forward to trying a new place.

Wow! I guess I never really thought about ESPN Weekend being a big draw for the crowds. Also, I will have to take your word for it about the famous people since I didn't recognize any of their names. They must be all sports people. That is a not an area of expertise for me by any means. ;)

Nine rides total on RnRC? Wow! :thumbsup2

The boys look like they had a lot of fun at the games and such.

What a shame about dinner at Mama Melrose's. :(

That is cool you were there for ESPN the weekend, I never put the dates together in my head. I have no idea who any of those people were, but I'm sure my DH would know the names :lmao: the boys looked like they had fun in the game area

That is so cool about 9 rides on RnR, I don't think I could do it, I like the ride enough, but it gave me a headache in January :confused3 I'm getting old

Cute Kermit hat and Angry eyes shirt (now I know which you were talking about, I remember you saying something about a shirt and the place being closed)

Sorry about Mama Melrose, I was getting excited looking at the atmosphere pictures, thinking it looked like a nice cozy place to eat, until you said how the food was

Loved the dining reviews, that is so cute. I hope he does it again. Great art from both boys and congrats to Alex on winning at the swim meet.

Thanks for the F&G pictures, I can't wait to see them in person :). The boys crack me up in the random pictures.

Wow Mission Space Orange? I am impressed, I am a complete chicken, there is no way I would do it, so happy the boys liked it.

It looks like the kids had fun at the interactive area at ESPN weekend. Tim did great on the Minnie drawing.

Your TSM ride was stolen by Mark Schlereth, ESPN co host on NFL Live, used to play for the Denver Broncos, he has 3 Superbowl rings. Can you tell Bill makes me watch football a lot??

I love the Kermit baseball cap and oh my goodness I LOVE the angry eyes t shirt. I am really enjoying your trip report :goodvibes.

so glad you got the shirt finally I love it :thumbsup2

Up next: Our last full day

:sad1: already...you are busting through this TR...

Looks like the boys were having a great time playing basketball.

Wow 9 times on RnRc. Sounds great to me.

Love the angry eyes t shirt.

That's too bad about Mama Melrose's. We always enjoy it there.

I love those faces... I can tell that they're both trying to s-t-r-e-t-c-h!!!

They looked as if they were having so much fun with the basketball game... and I'm sure Tim was enjoying the atmosphere as well!

(Tell him I said two :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 for his November trip suggestion!!)

Kathy

Yeah! I got caught up Amy! I LOVE that you always post pics of your purchases! I like seeing what others pick out! Cory had seen the "angry eyes" shirt last April and we never went back to get it, but thankfully when my parents went in February they still had it and now Cory finally has a Disney shirt! It's the perfect shirt for him!!

It looked packed for ESPN Weekend, but it looked like the boys had fun with all the basketball stuff!! Tim and Zach's Minnie drawings look great, better than I could ever do, we are looking forward to trying next time though!!

I love all the souvenir purchases! YAY! :thumbsup2

My Daniel would love to go during ESPN weekend. I actually entered the sweepstakes to win tickets this year, but sadly, did not. I never win anything! :confused3

RnRC 9 times!! Now that's my kind of trip! :yay:

Had a little catching up to do.....

Wow, impressed with MS Orange. I tried Green once and that is plenty for me, definitely have a clostrophobia thing though. Daniel was funny on it, he was convinced we were actually going to Mars :lmao: he was a bit upset we weren't really there. ;)

Never thought ESPN weekend would have that kind of stuff, looks like a lot of fun! Wow, 9 rides on RnR. :worship: Looks like you had a pretty good night at DHS.

Love the kermit hat, I think Deirdre will be looking for that when we go in June. She's a muppet nut.

Can't believe we're at your last day already.

It was busy, but mostly in the area behind RnRC. The meal was OK but at least we had a nice spot to sit down and rest for a bit.

I'd heard it wouldn't be too much busier than normal at DHS but it was. Tim definitely knew more about the sports personalities than I did!

The boys had a lot of fun!

We definitely didn't plan our trip around ESPN weekend but it was fun to check it out while we were there.

Yes 9 rides on RnRC! :scared1:

I love the kermit hat. Zach won't wear it anywhere other than Disney. Tim loves his new shirt. It's a nice soft one.

I'm happy we ate at Mama Melrose's - it was fun to experience even though the food was only OK.

Thanks Tracy!!

Very impressive! Tim knew "Steak's" name but I had no idea he even existed... actually thought he was called "Stink"!

I thought Tim's Minnie came out great!

We had a lot of fun checking out ESPN weekend.

:sad1: already...you are busting through this TR...

Yes - I think that guy was smoking... didn't notice him at the time.

I'm anxious to get a PTR started before ADRs on May 12th. ;) But I want to wrap this one up first.

Yes... nine times... :sad2: I LOVE RnRC but even I was getting bored of it!

Yet nobody would ride Tower of Terror! :headache:

Kathy

The boys loved standing in front of those cutouts of tall players. Zach was actually just looking over my shoulder at the pictures the other day.

If the sports area wasn't so crowded, I'm sure we would have stuck around longer.

Yay for November!! :cheer2:

I love the angry eyes shirt - that's funny that Cory has it too!

You should definitely try out the animation academy - it's a lot of fun.

I love all the souvenir purchases! YAY! :thumbsup2

Sorry you didn't win... maybe next time. ;)

I'm impressed with MS orange! I never thought I'd ride it! It was only a matter of time until the boys figured it out, but I thought I'd get away with riding the green side.

The muppet shop had a lot of really cool things. :thumbsup2

I know I've missed some updates, but your boys impress me with all the RnR rides. Way to go! :cool1:

I love the pictures of them playing basketball. Very cool.

I also like the glasses you got at ESPN. Yes - girls DO know best.

Fun update! Can't believe its almost your last day!

The ESPN stuff was pretty cool!

It actually is "Stink" he has a product called "Stinkin Good Green Chile" :rotfl:.

:rotfl: I got that backwards... I thought Tim was calling him "Steak" but yes, he was calling him "Stink"!

Saturday 3/5 –

Today was our last full day! :sad2: We had plans to spend the morning at Epcot & the evening at Magic Kingdom. We had a lunch ADR at Le Cellier at 11:30.
We arrived in time for rope drop & got to see the Toy Story topiaries:

We headed straight toward Innoventions West and waited for the doors to open to grab a KP mission FP. I stuck the first ticket in & we got Norway (pick up location) so I stuck in another ticket & got Norway again! Then a third ticket & I got Italy, finally on the last ticket I got the International Gateway. :thumbsup2 A CM came along and asked me if I needed help & commented that I looked like a pro. I explained that I wanted to get the UK mission & knew I needed an IG pickup location. She looked at our IG ticket and noted that it actually said, “UK” in tiny letters at the bottom of the ticket so we were all set! The two Norway tickets were for Mexico & Norway and the Italy ticket was for Japan. The plan was for Zach & either Tim or I to start the UK KP mission right at 11:00 to squeeze it in before lunch in Canada.

After taking care of the KP tickets we walked through Innoventions West & came out the other side to head to the Land for breakfast at Sunshine Seasons and then a ride on Soarin’. The breakfast was great, as usual. We jumped in line for Soarin’ and realized that we were going to end up in the bottom row again! So I asked if we could wait for the next “flight” to be in the top row. The CM said yes & asked us to stand aside. We had a great ride in the top row of the middle section. Zach was very happy. After Soarin’ we split up. I took Alex to create another ride on SOAT while Tim took Zach to check out Innoventions West. They ended up doing the video game attraction & the fire attraction. Tim was good and took a few pictures:
