Just booked tickets to head down to Orlando in June!! Woot woot!
However, this will be our first time staying off-site, we're mainly going to Universal for the new Harry Potter stuff, but we still want to do a couple days at Disney.
Obviously this means no DME, and no Disney transportation, so I'm wondering what are my options now?
I've heard of Mears shuttles, does anyone have feedback or experiences with that, are there any other similar services available. I need airport-hotel transportation, as well at hotel-Disney transportation. Thanks for your help!

If you plan on going multiple locations such as Universal and Disney I would have to say renting a car would probably be your cheapest option. It will get you to/from airport and around while in town without having to wait on schedules and other transport. There is a transportation Dis board where you might be able to get more detailed help:

My hotel offers transportation to Universal. I mainly need to figure out the best way to get to Disney, where I'll be spending 2 days, and to/from the airport.

I think you can use Mears but since its per person after 2 or 3 people a taxi is cheaper. After a few Taxi rides, renting a car is cheaper.

You may want to really research hotel transport options, some have costs that are not disclosed up front and some only run once or twice a day. We got burned on that for our first trip to Universal and I have read so many other nightmares with that same type of issue. Make sure before you go that thier transport schedule will work with yours.

I've taken Mears shuttle to and from the airport/hotel. It was fine. I recall waiting a bit for the shuttle at the airport but maybe because I was early?? I wasn't upset over it though. I waited for the shuttle right by the DME. The return to trip to the airport was right on time.

My hotel offered shuttles to Disney - but the schedules times didn't work for me. I was attending a conference. I ended up taking a taxi to DTD. I think round-trip with tip it was $30. So for multiple people, I do think a taxi to Disney would be cheaper than Mears. There may be other options though.

car service for the airport transfers and a taxi for the hotel-disney part would be probably what I would do (with no rental car factored into the mix). You can find codes for round trip discounts for car services. www.mousesavers.com has them and company's websites also have them for some. Taxis will be at the hotel doors to take you and waiting at the parks to bring you back.

Any idea how much the costs of Taxis will be? I think my hotel 8-10 miles away from the Disney area.
