Do you like it or not? Why? Can I put in this type of request if doing online check-in?

Thanks,
Tammy

ooh great thread!! Can't wait to see people's opinions! I called Disney Reservations and requested the second floor...staying at CBR. not sure why i requested it?!?! lol!!

With little kids and STROLLERS I love the ground floor. We ended up with 2nd floor at POFQ and ground floor at ASMUS. It was definitley easier to come and go on the ground floor.

However, once I don't have to drag a stroller up the stairs, or go in search of an elevator (which of course was around the far side of the building) then I don't know if it would matter.

I don't think we will make a request for any floor in particular for our summer trip to CSR.

We have no particular preference for a ground room floor or a top floor. We've never had an issue with noise whether on the first floor, the third floor or the top floor of any resort we've stayed at (the most noise we had was in the corridors of the Contemporary with kids running up and down the halls at all hours...and the reason we prefer the "outdoor" walkways).

I prefer the outdoor walkways too -- I've stayed in sooo many hotels, and no matter how expensive they are you always hear people (usually kids) in the hallways. Those exterior doors are much more soundproof.

That being said, at the All Stars we always request a ground floor room. There are so many paths to take that very few people walk past your room, even on the way to their own. And it seems to make a huge difference in the amount of time it takes to get anywhere. We've done the 2nd floor, and we won't do it again if we don't have to -- I'd rather have a building further away from the pool than to give up my ground floor room.

Plus, every time we've stayed in an upper floor room, DH has gotten himself lost. Really, it's not that difficult, but he usually finds a way to get lost anywhere. :rotfl2:

We love ground floor at the Polynesian.

At the other WDW resorts we frequent, we prefer anything but ground floor! :rotfl:

I started to see the benefit of ground floor on the trip we took when my kids were 6 and 8. We could leave the door cracked open and allow them to play in the grass outside the room with the kids from the other family we were traveling with. I felt assured that they could get back in quickly, or I could get to them quickly, without having to go to the end of the building to the stairs. Even though they are 11 and 13 now, I still like to know they are close.

I did not like our ground floor room at Wilderness Lodge. WL is shaped in a U. Inside the U would give great access to the courtyard. Outside of the U, where we stayed was not a very good room.

Ok ground floor people, if you haven't read the threads about snakes getting into rooms and don't want to think about it, don't.....but, ever since I read those, my irrational fears have prompted me to request 2nd floor and higher (I know snakes climb, but it's mental thing) (and yes, I stress the word irrational, so I don't need anyone giving me the odds of one getting in the room or not)

You do know that the snake found at the Contemporary was on an upper floor, don't you? ;)

I honestly can not think back to a time when I've ever stayed on the ground floor. I love upper levels because the views are so much better, and there's less traffic in front of your room. I ALWAYS request, and end up getting, the highest floor wherever I stay.

At a value or moderate, I think I'd like ground floor (never had one at CSR or POFQ). However, at a deluxe, the only time I enjoyed ground floor was with pool view at BWV. But the other time we had ground floor at BWV I missed my balcony (we did have a patio, but it's not the same).

as smokers, we like ground floor or 2nd floor. ground floor is quicker to get to the DSA, but on the 2nd floor, it feels kinda like a balcony (at the value or moderates). to us, one flight of stairs is nothing. but we don't like to wait for an elevator.
since they changed the smoking rules, we have only stayed at one deluxe resort. BWV. we got a gound floor, eventhough we didn't request it. It was very convenient to 2 DSAs, but, as a PP stated, I really wanted a balcony, not a patio. oh well.
we'll be a beach club villas in july, and I'm kinda hoping for a balcony. if it's a long walk to the elevator, and then, the DSA, maybe we'll smoke less!

Totally agree for same reason!!! Especially love the ground floors at the Polynesian. Last stay there were able to walk out our patio door driectly to "quiet pool". Was wonderful! DD WILL NOT stay in a ground floor room. She's afraid her will "escape"!:tink:

It depends. For example, when I'm staying at BC and going back and forth to Epcot a lot, I usually request a ground floor close Epcot. It just makes it easier, and I've never had trouble getting one because they are so far from everything else that most people don't want them. But when I stayed at BLT last August, I requested an upper floor so I could have a better view (why have all those windows if you aren't going to maximize the view?). So it depends on the resort, how long I'll be at the resort, and what I plan to do while I'm there. Sometimes the view is more important and sometimes convenience is more important.

If I have my Mom with me, I always request ground floor, because she gets claustrophobic in elevators - not a way you want to spend your vacation!

I always request the ground floor and have always been given a ground floor room. No critters, at least not yet.

The critter we had a Pop (Junie the lizard) was in our 3rd floor room.
