We are planning a stay a the SWAN Jan 1-5. Will the Grotto pool be warm enough to swim in? Realize the trip back to the room will be chilly, but wondering about the pool itself.

that's an excellent question, we'll be there jan 10-18 so I'd hope it's heated, but I was just reading that an offsite resort with a grotto pool doesn't heat their's so I got a little worried last night. But then disney heats its waterparks and to my knowledge all of their pools, and the s/d are in disney, they'd be hurting themselves if they didn't. I'd be interested to find out.

I stayed at the Beach Club in a February and while it was somewhat chilly to be in the pool, there were tons of people using it. The answer to your question is that YES, the pools are very heated... when I went swimming in Stormalong Bay on a cold, rainy day (it was the last day there and I still hadn't used it), there was steam coming off the water due to how heated it was... it felt nice :p The worst part was getting out, but it wasn't so bad! However, I would assume January is a bit colder than mid-February?

We were at the Dolphin a couple of years ago at that same time and I would say TOO COLD! We did go out and look at the grotto pool, but did not get in. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

the grotto pool is cold in September (weel, it isn't cold, but it is really chilly), I can't imagine swimming in January!

Unfortuntatly, the grotto pool at the S/D is not heated. We stayed at the Dolphin in Jan and managed just fine in the grotto pool;) We're from New England! Unless it is cold during your stay you will be fine swimming.

I just checked out the swandolphin.com website. It said in bold print on the page about pools, "All Pools are heated!"

If you're staying at the Dolphin, you don't have to walk very far outside to get inside the building.

The Grotto pool at the S/D is definately heated. We were there this year over New Year's, and the water was warm, but the air was frigid. I don't know if the weather this January was typical or not, but it was extremely cold and windy at night, and the days could be pretty chilly as well. I can swim in almost any weather, but DW and I only managed to enjoy the hot tubs this year, and even then, the wind took us back to the room fairly quickly. By contrast, two years ago we went to the Poly over MLK; the weather was great for swimming, and the Poly pool was also heated to make it very comfortable (though we missed the hot tub!)

Last February we split our stay between WL and the Swan. WL's pool was warmer than the grotto pool. My kids swam both places, but the grotto pool was a bit cool for me! Hi temps were in the low 70s and it was sunny. The grotto pool is beautiful. Hopefully you get a "heat wave" in January!

My Dad and I swam in Stormalong Bay in January a couple of years ago, the air was chilly but the water was warm. It was great. (but I am used to swmining in cold upstate NY Adirondack Lakes) There was no crowds. It was like our own private pool. When my Dad and I got out my Mom had warm fluffy towels and drinks (to warm the inside) from Hurriane Hannahs waiting for us. I also swam in Stormalong Bay in May and it was a mob scene. Had a much better time in January !
