Has anyone stayed at the Grosvenor in Downtown Disney?

We're thinking of heading back to Orlando at the end of May and I keep finding good prices at this hotel, and I'm wondering if it's worth it. We're attracted by the location (done the I-Drive thing before, don't want to stay that far away again) and the British-theme of the hotel, especially the Sherlock Holmes bar (DH is a huge Sherlock freak).

How is the transportation to the parks? On our last trip, we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Seaworld and while their bus service was free, it was also horrendous. Never on time, surly, tip-grubbing drivers, you get the picture.

Any and all info would be great! Thanks! :earsboy:

I went with my Mom Dec. 2002. First, I got a very good rate with DreamRes ($39 pn) and DreamRes only has tower rooms so that was a big plus. The hotel is by no means a luxury or even deluxe hote, I would put it in there with the moderates but the rooms are much, much bigger and the free refrigerator is a good plus if you want to save on food. You are at a very short distance to both DTD and the mall (in the opposite direction of DTD). It took us (my Mom not walking too fast at all) all of 5 minutes to get to DTD. I found the buses to be a little better than those at AllStars, they might have not been as frequent but they were on schedule, every 1/2 hour if I recall correctly. Grosvenor is one of the last pick up and drop off of the bus but we never stood in either direction. Now this was the mid week of Dec. mind you and the Parks were not crowded at all (year after Sept.11, I think that's why the rates were so low). Anyway, the room was very spacious but showing its age, by that I mean the walls looked like they needed painting but that was pretty much it, Oh, and the pillows weren't great but you could get as many as you wanted. A lot of storage room, nice size closet, with dresser and nice size TV. Dryer in the bathroom worked well but the fixtures looked a bit worn. I do think that they need to renovate but not to a point where it would gross you out. The pool was a very nice size and you could actually swim in it, by that I mean there is a side deeper than 5 feet (big thing with me). Didn't try the Mystery Dinner but did have breakfast there a couple of times and we enjoyed it very much. If you would like to see my pictures of this hotel, email me and I'll send you the link, I just don't know how to link them here. Good luck on whatever you decide.:teeth:

We were able to get it Thanksgiving weekend '03 through Priceline and were happy with it. We only paid $35/nite & it was very nice to be so close to DD.

We didn't try the bus service, so I can't help you there. Even if you don't use priceline, go through www.biddingfortravel.com, and find the FL board, then the hotel list, and read the reviews for that hotel. There are alot on there, and it should help you out quite a bit!

Good luck!
