Has anybody ever stayed at the Grosvenor? What are the pros and cons of staying at the Marketplace vs. a Disney resort? I have found a pretty good rate for Grosvenor, but is it worth it?

We stayed there for one night on our recent trip down (12/26 - 1/3). The good things: The room was equipped with a small refrigerator. (Big enough for juice and breakfast and lunch, drinks, etc.) It was very close to Downtown Disney. (We walked over that evening for a visit. It was not a taxing walk at all.)

The bad things: The room was rather small -- think Holiday Inn room. It was definitely old, and the bathroom wasn't particularly clean. (Not filthy, just not sparkling.) If you're going in winter only -- late December, January or early February -- the room was cold, and the heater did not work well. There was not much of a hot water capacity in the shower. (We took luke warm showers the night we were there.) We commented that we were glad that the weather was moderate because we would have been cold otherwise. (That wouldn't matter if you were traveling in the heat of the summer, I guess.)

I've heard several people say that they got Grosvenor for $29 on Priceline. For that price or a similar one, I'd say it's worth it. But it's definitely not a luxury resort.

Wow!!! My first post, hope this goes well.LOL

Sorry about that!! We stayed at the Grosvenor in July 2003. If you are planning on using the bus service, it is last stop!! During a busy time -very difficult to catch a bus. Waited for one for the Magic KIngdom for over 45 minutes, finally took bus to Epcot and caught the monorail!!! The rooms are outdated and there were 3 different patterns of florals in the room. Husband (6'2) kept hitting his head above the bathroom sink while trying to shave!! If you get a really great rate, maybe. If you are wanting to stay at DTD consider the Holiday Inn (old Courtyard) , Royal Plaza,or the Doubletree--they're first on the bus route.

We stayed at the Grosvenor last May for 11 nights. We got the first 10 nights at 35$/night with priceline and were very happy with that!!! The small refrigerator is big enough for milk, juice, fruits, etc... The room was OK, small a bit, but fine if you don't spend all your day inside! We decided to stay another day at disney and asked for a tower room... Much much more better! You can see the fireworks from downtown disney, rooms are a lot bigger and the bathroom is almost 2 times bigger.

Although, my husband still think that the courtyard room was a better deal (he REALLY liked the balcony, having his coffee outside in the morning, reading the paper, and paying 35$ a night...!!) Their regular rates aren't that bad to.

We are going back to wdw again this year. If we don't go for ASMo, we will definitly go back to Grosvenor!

We really enjoyed our 3 day stay at the Grosvenor. We had a courtyard room on 3rd floor overlooking the pool. The room and bathroom were very clean and beautifully appointed. It was much bigger than a DIS moderate and the fridge was a definite plus. We especially liked the location, as it is literally directly across the street from DD. We walked over to Ghiradelli's everynight for an ice cream cone!

We stayed at the Grosvenor in Dec.
I got this through priceline too.
The room was clean and it was a plus to have the fridge.
I was very pleased with the location, we were on the 5th floor with a really nice view of DTD. As said above so easy to walk to DTD.
I would stay there again.

I stayed there Dec. 2002 in a tower room, got it through DreamsRes here and had the $39 rate. It was great, even though it was the last stop for the busses we found it was very well scheduled. Just have to keep track of the bus schedules and you will be OK, also I went just before Xmas, the week before and it was not crowded so that added comfort to our stay. The room was on the 7th floor and we were able to see the fireworks. The room was large (just Mom and me) and the bathroom was very spacious, outdated but spacious and clean. For a reasonable rate I would definitely stay there again, the staff were very pleasant and a total of $283 for 7 nights was a big plus! You can walk to DTD in 5 minutes, its the closest to DTD. We did have breakfast there most mornings, if you are a big breakfast eater their buffet is very nice and the food was quite good. Didn't try dinner theatre thing though. HTH
