When we eat out at home we take one of the highchair covers with us to keep our 1 yo DD from touching the nasty, dirty, highchairs in the restaurants. It does not seem logical to carry it around the parks with us, but my husband is actually suggesting it. What are your experiences with highchairs in the restaurants? Do they clean them up pretty well, or are you cringing at the thought of your daughter touching them and then eating? Any suggestions are welcome!

I used to have my daughter sit in one of the highchair covers all the time too but as she is getting older I am not. From my experience with Disney high chairs is they are pretty clean. I don't think any of them are the "wooden" ones. I believe they use Koala Kare brand ones and they wipe down fairly easy. I usually have a pack of germ-x wipes with me for a quick wipe before eating.

If your husband is willing to carry it, then go for it. You may be able to find a more portable "style" thats lighter to carry or uses less room. I brought my 2yo one year, she threw up on the ride home from catching a bug while we were there. I say go for it if he's willing to do the work :)

There is literally no way for anyone on this forum to be able to predict how clean every high chair you get will be :)

I used one all the time when both my kids were babies, (now 5 & 3) I'd say for Disney I would be comfortable w/ the disinfectant wipes & the plastic sheets that stick to the tray. I wouldn't want to carry around the cover; I didn't necessarily like carrying it locally! Definitely get the plastic sheets to cover the tray and I think you'll be good to go. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, Chick-Fil-A has them for free w/ each high chair, or you can buy them at Wal-Mart, not sure if I described them good enough? :confused3)

When my son was 4 months old we went to WDW. He could sit on his own in a restaurant highchair if we had the insert. Since restaurants wouldn't allow his stroller, we used the insert. Kept him clean, safe, and secure. It was no big deal to throw in.

I also bring a baggie of disinfectant wipes. I typically wipe down all highchairs and even the table in front of my toddler, since I know his hands will be all over everything within reach during his meal. :) I will say that the highchairs at Disney on our last trip looked very clean, but I wiped them down anyway because it's a habit.

We also used Lysol wipes to clean it down as well as the table and then the table topper would go down.

1st Child - Thought every highchair was gross so ALWAYS brought our own, even at WDW

2nd Child - Broke out the wipes and never carried a portable highchair

3rd and 4th Child - Highchair never entered our mind, and forget the wipes most of the time, its a wonder they survived!!!

No experience with the chairs, but an old muslin swaddle blanket makes a great cover and is easy to keep in your bag!

Like some of the others, we brought disinfectant wipes to wipe down the high chairs and the straps. I would not say the Disney high chairs were any cleaner than anywhere else. We liked the babyganics hand wipes... We also use the liquid sanitizer to wipe his hands about the rides.

Haha...so true.

#1 - watched carefully to make sure he wasn't trying to teeth on public highchairs or grocery carts

#2 - told big brother to help me watch to make sure she wasn't trying to teeth on public highchairs or grocery carts

#3 - figured if #1 and #2 made it this far, #3 will be fine.

Oddly enough, my kids RARELY get sick now and DS14 is the biggest germophobe I've ever met. Maybe it was being in charge of his siblings public hygine that did him in. :rotfl2:

High-chairs and food venues are probably some of the lesser germ infested places at WDW. They generally get cleaned after each use.

Hand rails, lap bars, character costumes, seat backs, etc, might get cleaned once or twice a day.

Maybe a few high chair germs will build up the immunity for all of the other things you get exposed to at WDW.

At home we bring a high chair cover. On vacation we just use wipes and clean the best we can.

Thanks for the input! Sounds like the experiences have been pretty good--not a bunch of people jumping on to complain about how disgusting they all are, which is a good sign. We will carry some Lysol wipes, plastic place mats, and call it a day.

I would be worried about the high chair covers because of leftover food and not being able to clean between uses. knowing how my youngest grandson eats it would be worse than the high chair after one meal even just used for lunch and dinner that's twice before it can be cleaned good. Disney is not like going out for dinner

we brought the table top disposable placemats, we even got the disney princess ones off of amazon. they have sticky strips on the bottom. those were great. first i would wipe the table down, and under the table's edge and then put on the placemat. wiping down the strap is a must too. luckily our dd2 was able to sit at the table. we were offered the high chair, but some did look gross, i was glad we did not have to use it.

Mine were covered with some kind of stain proof stuff. It was like teflon cloth and nothing stuck to it (thank goodness I wish I could cover my now toddler in it!). I gave them away or I'd offer them to someone but they were bought off amazon. :goodvibes

For wipes I'd recommend the 7th generation ones which disinfect but are safe for food contact surfaces. Most require a rinse.

I also love those sticky disposable placemats!

I also have a high chair cover I bring every where. It's made out if a thin nylon fabric and packs down to smaller than a men's wallet! It's by green sprouts. I would wipe it down after each use and it would dry quickly then every night in my hotel room I would wash it in the sink and it would be ready for the next day!
