Groping incidents this week

Surprised I haven't seen much talk about this.

There were two separate groping incidents of children this week on WDW property.

That's twice as many this week as there have been alligator attacks on property in 30 years.

This is a reminder that Disney is not the safe and perfect bubble some assume it to be.

These are the real child predators and thankfully they both were caught.

Are there any links for this? I hadn't heard.

:confused3 It was kind of hard to miss, since there were 2 separate articles about the incident at Pop on the News and Updates column on the main page of the DISboards .

I will never understand why parents seem to think that WDW exists inside some kind of magic bubble where they can pretend that they and their families are immune to the dangers of everyday life. And then are alarmed and disturbed when they find out they were wrong.

This isn't the first time it's happened, and won't be the last.

I think the Pop Century article is interesting because it indicates police aren't releasing the genders of the alleged victims. Farther down, the reporter identifies one of the victims by gender.

This is horrible, and we are lucky that people think so! See the film "India's Daughter," if you want to see how world wide abuse of young childen and women is, and how in many countries you wouldn't see these behaviors prosecuted. I am glad they were caught, but most predators do a lot of damage before being held accountable! I hope Disney supports these brave children, and lets them know how none of it was their fault!

Disney did its part when security acted appropriately and ensured the police became involved. I believe both accused were banned before being hauled off to jail. Why would it be Disney's responsibility to do anything further? Surely it's the parents who should be providing the support that their children might require.

I did not say it was Disney's responsability. Disney and other authorities most likely had to question these children, and I hope they had appropriately trained people doing this and reassuring the children that they did nothing to encourage the incidents!...I wish all parents were capable of supporting their children in that way, but sadly it is not the case. Parents may also have to deal with their own feelings about not having been playing in the water with their children, or may be very angry. I just hope the children are supported.

I'm sure Disney and the authorities questioned the children appropriately regarding the incident. It isn't their responsibility, however, to provide emotional support. That's the parents' job whether they are capable of doing it or not.

Please don't take this as a flame, but there seems to be a constant theme on the boards where many people think Disney is responsible for absolutely everything that occurs on their property and the aftermath of what occurs. They do not owe these people therapy because of a crime that was committed by another guest at the resort.

It doesn't surprise me but it sure is awful. WDW must be paradise for a pervert. It's full of kids with lots of parents who have their guard down.

I get what you're saying, OTOH, the place is swarming with potential witnesses, not to mention cameras everywhere.

Many sexual predators frequent places with a large population of juveniles, and you'd be surprised how many people turn a blind eye. Water parks, carnivals, and malls. Sad.

I see the opposite, Disney is rarely seen as responsible and always defended on these boards. In this case, I agree that they are not responsible. I do think they bear responsibility in the alligator case.

I in no way know how a predator thinks but I'm assuming that this wasn't their first times since they were so brazen to do it in such public places. One man was even a baseball coach and there with his team for a tournament. Scary crap.

I know this is a litigious country, and I never meant to imply any compensary sort of thing, but if a child is abused on your property, I would hope that human decency would prompt one to recognize that a trauma happened on your watch, and rather that quietly compensating it away, a child would be heard, respected, and made to feel empowered! A good number of children victimized end up being victimized again without support. I don't care who gives it to them, but they were not near their local community organizations, but at Disney.
