I called the Grand Floridian Bakery because they are the ones that provide the cakes for O'Hana's (where our rehearsal dinner is) The lady I spoke to said they only do sheet cakes and no "fancy" designs. She said I could only simply put writing in icing on the top.

Before yelling at her I decided to ask you guys instead. Haven't there been cakes with unique designs before? All I asked for was a Pittsburgh Penguin cake and she told me to go outside of Disney for it. (we cant because of the actual rehearsal)

Either I read a post wrong or she hates the Penguins. Can you guys help me out? Thanks!!!!

Wow. That lady sounds like she might have been drunk.
I'm sure an experienced bride can point you in the right direction - or your planner will help you out.

Don't forget, if you want to save money, you can always have the publix nearby make it and have someone bring it to the rehearsal dinner. You will probably have to really beg them to keep it in their freezer, but I know its been done! :)

I just did a double check and it was the number I called today...I will have to give them another call tommorrow then.

Yes, you can definitely have a special cake. Our wedding planner arranged it for us. We had it at 'Ohana, but it was made at the GF Bakery. I tried arranging it myself with no luck. Our cake was a sheet cake, but we had 2 3D pieces (an Eiffel tower and Mickey) and another design on it.

OK I WILL HELP YOU SINCE I WENT THROUGH THIS YOU CAN GET CUSTOM CAKES AT DISNEY BUT BE PREPARED TO SPEND ALOT:headache: , YOUR BETTER OFF GOING TO PUBLIX RIGHT DOWN THE STREET I HAVE THE NUMBER AND INFO IF YOU WANT IT, ;)
OHANAS WILL NOT STORE IT IN THE FRIDGE THOUGH BECAUSE OF OSHA RULES I PICKED MINE UP ON WAY TO REHEARSAL KEPT IT IN BRIDES:bride: ROOM THEN CARRIED IT OVER WITH ME, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T GET WHIPPED ICING OR ICE CREAM YOU ARE SAFE TO NOT HAVE IT IN FRIDGE!

PUBLIX DID A GREAT JOB ON MY CUSTOM CAKE !!!! OHANAS WILL NOT CHARGE YOU TO CUT OR SERVE EITHER!!!!

I'm having a groom's cake at Ohana's. I called the number Carrie told you to call. I didn't have any problems.I told them what we wanted for our flavor and filling and I said that I wanted a donald duck cake and to make it look good.

Just my opinion; but Publix makes a much better Grooms Cake than Disney. Check out www.publix.com under Special Occasion Cakes. I believe that wegoshop will deliver it for you. There may be refrigeration needed.

You can get a custom cake, as I'm having one tomorrow for our anniversary, (Lady and the Tramp) but i seriously doubt that Disney will do a Pittsburg Penguin cake. 1st, i'm sure that is a licensed design that disney does not have rights to. 2nd, They are disney, and will only do disney cakes.

I used Linda from GF private dinning for our cake, as we are having it at 1900 Park Fare. I don't know if she could help you or not,

Try Ohanas again - 407-824-2165
the Cake Hotline - 407-827-2253
and finally talk to your WP. She should be able to get someone to help you with that.

You should be able to get a cake, but you may have to change your design request, or go with Publix.

One of the other December 2007 brides had a Seattle Seahawks cake made for her husband-to-be. So it definitely can be done. As I recall, she also went through her WP to have her's made. That may have changed since December, though.

Here's the link. Scroll down a bit to see the groom's cake.

Disney makes a very tasty, pricey cake. Is it worth over $200 (which is what you'll probably pay)? No. Our's was a wonderful cake and I'm glad we had it. Our cake was also HUGE and fed many guests for several nights (kept it in our rental fridge). The strawberry mousse and fresh strawberries were delightful!

I'm glad you double checked the number, that response certainly doesnt sound like anyone at the Grand Bakery!!

One thing you should know. If you are having a wedding with DFTW, then your cordinator should do the arranging for you. If you do get someone from the GF bakery, they will tell you the same thing. Ordering a grooms cake without your coordinator is comparable to making changes on your wedding cake without his/her knowledge. There would be no definitive paper work in place, and some confusion (flavors, designs, billing) may happen. The wedding dept. at the GF bakery can not discuss any FTW cake issues without the direct involvement of the coordinator.

As for your design request, let your coordinator handle it. Sports themes have been done in the past.

And one last thought. Any wedding going thru FTW is big bucks, so why would you want to do some of the work yourself by making your own calls and arranging your grooms cake without the coordinator? Let them do what they get paid for. The GF bakery does not have a direct number to call. Any cake order is taken thru the cake line or by the room service department. They are equipped to handle small birthday cakes served in the GF restaurants, not grooms cakes delivered away from the GF, thus the uninformed answers you recieved.
