Hey everyone need options

We are arriving at the Cabins around about 8 am June 20th.. I have to buy grocerys for 6 people for a week so the Garden Grocer is kinda out...

Option 1.... Go shopping when i get there at Publix and Sams....

Option 2... Go shopping before i leave Deep freeze everything and cover with ice for trip down... I am kinda leaning to this but has anyone ever done this and how good did it work?????

We've done it both ways. Takes us about 2 days to get there, and keeping things frozen hasn't been a problem. Just freeze as many things solid as you can and use a decent cooler. Also helps to cover everything with a towel before closing the lid - helps seal in the cold and prevent you from losing too much coldness if someone opens the cooler.

I'm now a fan of shopping on the way there. Less packing to fuss with, and more importantly for us, less weight in the TT on the way down.

We stop the night before we arrive in Jacksonville and hit the Super WalMart early that a.m. before we head to the Fort.

wow 2 days then i will be fine.... we leave friday at 6 pm and arrive sat at about 8 am ... thanks for the towel idea.... we just have the excursion no trailer so weight is no biggy.

We stop at publix. They offer some things we can't get at Wal-mart. It is not far at all from the fort.

In case it's helpful for anyone stumbling across this thread...

There are a few grocery options not far from FW.

Take a left out of the Fort and then a right at the first light onto Bonnet Creek. At the next light take a left onto Buena Vista Dr. Follow this past DTD. Take a right onto Hotel Plaza Blvd.

Go down Hotel Plaza Blvd. to the light at the main gate. Left on Apopka Vineland.

If you go straight through the next big intersection, about 1/4 mile, there will be a Walgreens on the left with a pretty good selection of basic groceries at decent prices.

I'm told if you continue on for just a bit longer, there is also a Publix (haven't been there).

If you take a right at that same intersection (instead of going through it) onto Palm Parkway and follow that for a couple of miles, there is a Super WalMart on the left. Typical WM prices.

Follow Palm Parkway a few more miles to the end (I think it turns into Turkey Lake at some point?) and there is a fairly new Whole Foods at the light on the corner of Kirkland (?) Beautiful store, great selection, HUGE food court with pre-made "heat and eat" food. Prices are typical for WF.

Time-wise, from the FW entrance, should take you about....
5-10 mins to Walgreens/Publix
10-15 mins to WalMart
15-20 mins to Whole Foods

BTW: Stay away from Goodings at Crossroads!! It might save you a few minutes driving, but the selection is lame and the prices are outrageous (especially on liquor). I'd be willing to bet their prices might be as high or higher than you'll find in the trading posts.

Thanks Shan! Missed that turn as I was driving it in my head. I think I've done that trip so many times now for real, that I do it on auto-pilot!

There is a service called wegoshop where you send them your grocery list (fax or email) and they shop for you at the store of your choice and deliver to you on property. I had this done at Saratoga Springs and I imagine they would deliver to the Fort. I seem to remember around $25 delivery charge plus tip. I made my list from the weekly sales flyer on line and spent no more than I would have if I had shopped at home. I gave them my arrival time, they booked me into a delivery time, then I called to confirm when I was checked in. wegoshop.com. Frankly, I had a lot more fun stretched out by the pool than shopping. But that's just me. It's another option.
