It's one thing to have an accident but entirely different to be negligent. Leaving a cart in the parking lot is negligent.

I'd love to hear their response if it were possible to send them a bill for the body repair if someone's car was damaged as a result of their negligence. They'd be the 1st ones crying too. I'm sure their philosophy is somewhere along the lines of, to hell with the people who do actually have to pay to have their automobile repaired. It's not my problem.

Uh-oh Bichon Barb and Beth76 - now the mom police are going to come after you too!

You can hide out with MOMTOMOOTOO and me if you like...but it's only a matter of time until they come to get us all... :hourglass

Seriously though, ITA. WTH is going to happen in 60 seconds or less? Not to mention the fact that anyone dumb enough to take my kids is going to be hunting me down, begging me to take them back in less than an hour. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:rotfl2: Could you imagine? I could see my two in the back of the abductee's car:

E: Stop acting so stupid!

H: You're stupid!

E: Say that again, and I'm gonna punch you.

H: (giggles) Stupid.

E: You are...like...so gay!

H: LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-STUUUPID!

(Punching, pinching and loud screaming and laughing starts. Abductor starts reaching into backseat of car trying to subdue children...) ;)

Seriously. The only time I've heard of trouble when leaving a child in the car is when the car is running or if mom doesn't have the keys, and the kids decide to lock her out. :teeth:

Some of these posts crying "But I have a baaaaabeeey" sound like having a baby is a disability or something. I have 5 kids (two of which are twins) and I always returned the carts. It's easy. You just do it backwards from how you first got the cart. If you carried the baby or babies when you first got the cart, you can carry the baby after you put up the cart. Honestly, I never considered it a burden--- just the polite thing to do.

Right now I have two corners of my van scratched because peope don't know how to drive in and out of parking spaces!!!! They cut too soon. I had a big dent from someone swinging their door open hard too. No scratches yet from errant carts but I'm sure that will happen some day. Ahhh life! My expectations of others are low. The cart issue has been beat to death on this board; it made me laugh when I read the first post. I haven't read the whole thread. Are people arguing passionately yet? :lmao:

I had an idiot forget to leave on his parking brake, leave his truck in neutral and then OOPS---it backed into my car in the parking lot.

I'll take a car scratch over an idiot parker any day of the week.

I had a huge dent in my car--and he had an even bigger dent. He couldn't figure out why I was so upset b/c his dent was bigger. Well moron--it's becuase you caused BOTH dents.

And yes I am a lazy cart returner. I always secure the cart in some fashion. No excuses. Publix wants the cart back--they should tell their clueless bag boys to cease their conversations with the cute cashier and offer to help me out to the car with my 2 children as they are supposed to do. Until then--they can have fun playing "find the cart" in the parking lot. If it is convenient to me to return the cart I will--if not, I won't bother. Nor will I leave it in such a way as to try to inflict damage or to be negligent as to cause damage to vehicle or person.

Oh--and the other day--I went to return to the cart corral and it was overflowing--yes carts in the starting to bulge into the street. In this case--no I didn't mozy back on up--I parked it as best I could and then skedaddled.

Flame away!

I have no problem with what you do if you're willing to pay the cost of any repairs (if they should ever happen) as a result of your actions. If you're okay with that, I'm okay with whatever you feel is best.

THANK YOU BETH! I've been reading this thread, and all I keep thinking is what exactly happens to children when you leave them in a locked car for 30 seconds? Really!!?? I've never heard or read anything about something terrible happening to a child left in a locked car for a few seconds. Is there any national data on this phenomena?

I'm going to take a wild bet that it's probably more dangerous to put your child in the car and drive to the grocery store than it is to leave your child in a locked, parked car for less than 30 seconds. :confused3
I wouldn't leave DS in the car for any amount of time without AC during the summer. It can be over 100 in Texas and the car is even hotter when we first get to it.

However, I would just take him with me to return the cart and I'd make a game of it. I would do the same if I had more kids, I'd just pile them all into the cart we're returning. :)

I'd like to know where some of live that your children are getting vaporized by sitting in the car alone for 20 seconds.

I just don't get these excuses. I don't put it up BUT I do secure it. Why don't you just put it where it goes?? If the corral is too full why can't you just take it in the store. Maybe the employees should do better but should some other shopper suffer because you are too lazy to walk a little further? I don't get it. I can't see why people can't just walk and return the carts. Is it that hard? I live in Wisconsin. I've done it with snow pouring down and it's difficult to push them back to the corral withs now everywhere but I've always done it. There is no excuse for not returning it. Plain and simple.

Yep, I am in this bad mommy club too. And I leave them in my very cold car to do it. I figure it is warmer in the car than out in the wind and snow and I don't leave them the keys so I am doin' good. :cool1:

The problem would be solved if every section would have a corral , when I have to park 300 feet away from the store front with no corral , you bet I am going to leave it there , I will secure the cart but I refuse to have to walk 200 feet to put it back in an overflowing corral , much less bring it back into the store when they have employees that are supposed to be doing this job.

I actually appreciate sometimes when a shopper does leave a cart behind. Many a times I have snatched one on the way in.

I don't get why everyone gets their panties in a wad over it. :confused3

IF said cart is secure in whatever location I put it--does it really matter?

If you saw your cart roll into another car and damage it would you wait for the owner to come out or at least leave your name and number for contact info? After all, your laziness, negligence, or stupidity has caused damage to someone else's property. You would do the right thing, right?

It has never happened. I have NEVER seen my cart roll into anyone. And FTR for all the cart police--most of the time I do return my cart.

And so we are calling people stupid, now?

No--you'd have to leave your kids in the car for that one I'm afraid. You have been disqualified for membership!

Only the ones that leave their carts in the lot so that they can run into other cars. If you say you don't do that then I guess I wasn't talking to you. :rotfl2:

I don't ever hit anyone's car , at least not willingly and trust me when I say those carts do not move when parked , the ones that move and roll are the ones overflowing from the corrals that only get emptied twice a day in a very busy supermarket. Perhaps if the stores had corrals on every section instead of just one , people would return more carts and the corrals wouldn't overflow.

Hey , I left them unattended in a stopped locked up car while I went to pay for my gas....do I qualify now? :rotfl:

The ironic thing is that I belong to the bad mommy club according to some because I leave my kids in the car to return it and you do because you don't . Kinda feels a bit like a no win situation, huh?

FWIW, I could care less what people do with their carts. I return mine cause I was raised with a good dose of guilt and it would haunt me!
