I'm wanting to locate a good grocery store near WDW. I know that Goodings is nice, but expensive. Maybe a Publix if it is one of the bigger, nicer ones (we went to one near Universal that wasn't too wonderful--small and old). I know that there are some between the airport and WDW, but we won't arrive until kind of late and probably won't want to stop the first night. We'll be staying at POR so a store in the Downtown Disney area would be good.

Thanks, T&B

Okay there is one in the plaza at the intersection at the entrance to the disney village hotels

Thanks! Do you know what street it is on or how to get there from POR?

okay heres a better map

The star represents the Hilton and the purple area DTD.
The plaza is at the intersection of Hotel Plaza Blvd and S. Apopka Vineland Rd

Isn't that the address for Goodings--at the intersection of Apoka and Hotel Plaza?

There is a Publix near the premier outlets. To get there from POR, go to Downtown Disney and take the Hotel Plaza Blvd towards Crossroads. At the intersection, take a right onto Apopka-Vineland Road, stay in the left lane. Just passed I-4 underpass turn left onto Vineland Road. The Publix will be on this road aproximately .10 mile from the turn--can't speak to how nice and new; the one time I tried to go there, it was closed early because of the hurricane.

I prefer the Winn-Dixie on Apopka-Vineland Road. Take a left at the intersection of Apopka and Hotel Plaza Blvd. It will be on your right about 1 1/2 to 2 miles. Very nice and new with a great deli.

okay I though it was a Publix:)
Winn Dixie! Yep thats where I took my film to get developed. I couldnt think of the name of the place. Yes Winn Dixie is better than that store there in the plaza and probably has better prices too

Shutterbug: How was the Winn-Dixie for developing--I think I saw on another thread that you had high speed film done--was it OK?

It was okay. The thing I was worried about was how they treated the negatives.
As long as the negatives are in good shape(not torn or scratched) I can take it to my regular photo lab and have them make correct prints.

Thanks for the info!

Is a card needed to get the sale prices at Wynn Dixie?

T&B

Yes, they have a card system, but the last time we were there, they used a vacation one without any one's name attached to it for us.

There's also the Super Wal Mart in Kissimee if you don't mind the drive.Prices are decent and you can find Dr.Pepper if you don't drink Coke(ok,that was a big plus with my family)

I also always hit the Super Wal Mart in Kissimmee - 15 minutes drive straight down the 192 east (it's on the next corner after Arabian Nights or whatever the big dinner show is called there). The nice thing about this is the 192 is well signposted on property so it's dead easy to get there.

If you can't wait that long there is a new Publix opened on your left (driving from WDW towards Walmart) about 5 minutes or so drive - I've not been in there myself but as it's so new and so close to Disney I imagine it's going to be a decent one.

Other places of interest on the 192 is a Krispy Kreme Outlet (on the right - 10 minutes) and opposite Wal Mart is an ABC Liquor store - no prizes for guessing my routine ;)

The last two posters must know me--Dr Pepper and Krispy Kreme... :earboy2: I had my first hot Krispy Kreme at the store and have been hooked ever since (a bit obsessed, in other words.

I'm looking at map and will write down the new Publix and the Super Wal-Mart. Do you happen to know the intersection of the new Publix? I've never rented a car before without my husband and have never driven in Orlando (he always has to do the dirty work...) so I really do not know my way around and don't want to get too lost.

Thanks! T&B

This is a good market and you can get a discount card @ customer service when you arrive and its good immediately.

Stay away from Goodings...expensive!

Thanks! I have all these stores marked on my map so I should be in good shape. Also, the stores all have website so I was able to get the addresses and see a map. Don't you just love the internet? :D

The Publix is a bit more than .10 mile down Vineland Rd. It's more like a mile and a half, so you'll pass the Premium Outlets, and then come to the Publix.

I live in this area, and prefer this Publix to the Winn Dixie. In my experience, the Publix has a better selection, and slightly better prices (without needing to bother with a discount card). The Publix seems new, and clean.

There are also 2 Super Walmarts in the area. The one on 192 has already been posted, there's also one on Osceola Parkway about 10 miles away from Disney property. The one on Osceola is, IMHO, much nicer than the one on 192. Larger, brighter, cleaner. The downside is that it's farther away, and there is a toll on Osceola (I believe 75 cents) to get there.

Lastly, there's a brand new Super Target on 192, a bit before (and on the other side of the street) from the Super Walmart.
