We are going to WDW in Sept. Will be my first time off-site, and with my own vehicle. I plan on getting most of my groceries when we get to Orlando. My DS is on a wheat free diet. I was wondering if there are any grocery stores near WDW with a gluten free section.

The two closest grocery stores to WDW that I know of are Goodings (close but expensive) and Publix. You might want to look them up and give them a call.

Probably the best source for gluten-free or other special dietary foods is the Whole Foods Market in the shopping center between I-4 and Turkey Lake road, just on the South side of Sand Lake Road.

To get there take I-4 in the direction of Orlando and get off at Exit 74, Sand Lake Road. Stay in the left lane and turn left, going under I-4. Ignore the traffic light for the other off-ramp (unless it is red, then stop). The next full intersection is Turkey Lake Road. Turn left here and then make the first available left into the shopping center. Note the Whole Foods Market faces Sand Lake Road.

If you are driving from the airport and want to stop there on the way to WDW, take the Beach Line (SR-528) to where it ends and head in the direction of Orlando. The first exit after you get on I-4 is Sand Lake Road.

Whole Foods has the biggest and best selection. After that, I would try Publix. I don't remember Goodings having a large selection of gluten free, but that may have added more. If you're looking for something specific, they do have an online store, but don't respond to email very well. The phone number is on the website, too. http://www.goodingsdelivers.com/goodingsdelivers.com/index.htm

Publix has a large selection of gluten free foods and the Walmart on 535 is slowly but surely getting a larger selection also. Both would be less costly and closer than Whole Foods but I agree that they'll have the most choices of all.---Kathy

I work at Publix & there is a decent amount of Gluten Free products. It would be significantly less expensive to shop there as opposed to the other stores.

Whole Foods is the place for us. No matter where we go, from Florida to Arizona to Virginia, we are almost guaranteed that Whole Foods has the items that we are looking for. We have 9 year old twin boys, one is on a gluten free, dairy free diet and the other is allergic to eggs & dairy. At nine they can be very picky eaters. When on vacation we can't (or won't) go from store to store looking for items that our kids will eat. It is much easier just to find out where is the closest Whole Foods.

Thanks so much for posting that Publix has a GF section. I was trying to find info from their website and it wasn't clear, at least to me, lol!

thanks! this is perfect info for me. New to the whole dietary restriction thing & wondering how to deal with it on vacay.....
